Project Summary
The project BRAVE – BRicking Adult’s future Via Empowerment was aimed at empowering unemployed adults (aged 30-60) facing difficulties in finding a new employment because of the increasingly specialised skills required by the market and/or because of personal uncertainties or expectations. To this end, BRAVE developed specific learning paths supporting adults to reconsider their life and expectations and to become aware of their own professional ambitions and objectives, as a way to reach their own personal fulfilment.
The learning path was focused both on personal and social skills and on entrepreneurial skills, finalized to the prototyping of participants’ business models. To facilitate the entry in the job market it is necessary to adjust the skills to the dynamics of the post-economic crisis, which determined deep changes in the market demand. For these reasons the project provided skills at every level tailored on the new requisites demanded (basic, transversal & soft skills, entrepreneurial, foreign language & digital skills).
The 8 project partners are expert organizations in the field of training, employability and entrepreneurship from 7 EU countries: FDE (RO), InEuropa srl (IT), Stichting PRIME (NL), KMOP (GR), CARDET (CY), SIF (LT), FYG (ES) and Zenit srl (IT).
The activities implemented are:
> Preparation, testing, validation of BRAVE Innovative training programme PHASE 1–Unemployed adults’ personal empowerment: it focuses on personal empowerment of unemployed adults needing to regain confidence in themselves, their aspirations & desires. Modules: Know yourselves; Discover your personal potential for a new Business Model YOU; First Portfolio of prototyped ideas delivered including Pitch-Storytelling; My contribution to the social good – ICARE values.
> Preparation, testing, validation of O2 BRAVE Innovative training programme PHASE 2–Business model prototyping: it aims to the creation of a personal business model focused on the individual motivations & expectations. 32 business models were collected in a portfolio published in the crowdsourcing platform (O3) to gain insights from peers, companies & other adults
> Creation of the BRAVE Local Groups and networking with the BRAVE Ring of Mentors: each BRAVE Local Group was made of about 10 adults who were in contact with the Ring of Mentors, composed by the staff or the PP organizations.
> Creation of the BRAVE transnational informal group: network of unemployed people “lost in transition” who will empower each other with ideas & concrete actions, in a peer-to-peer perspective. It is aimed at transferring results by empowering other unemployed adults
> Crowd sourcing platform to gain insights on business models: used to collect insights from the wider audience about the business ideas proposed
> Creation and testing of MOOC 4.0 (Massive Online Open Courses) for increasing unemployed adults’ skills and competencies: based on deep listening among learners as a vehicle for sensing one’s highest future possibility through the eyes of others, to be tested on the BRAVE Local Groups.
> Delivery of 2 LTTA events, useful for testing and finalizing the BRAVE training programme and for uploading the business models created in the Crowd sourcing platform.
> 7 multiplier events at local level for disseminating project outcomes, transfer & exploit project results, targeting unemployed adults, policy makers, training centres, organizations and associations working with unemployed people, employment centres, social services, orientation/counselling/mediation services for unemployed.
The results on unemployed adults are: increased self-confidence, awareness, proactiveness and satisfaction towards one’s own future, wishes and opportunities, that will reflect also on their families’ quality of life; increased social and communication skills, assertiveness; enhanced ICT/English language skills and digital competences; increased self- entrepreneurship, employability, courage to take challenges and confront with peers from other countries; new knowledge on business creation and development.
The project also increased partners’ knowledge regarding adult empowerment methods in the partnership countries, cooperation and networking at local, national and EU level. MOOCs, the BRAVE association and the newly trained BRAVE MENTORS ensure sustainability to the project results and a cascade effect on other adults not directly participating to the project.
Entities & institutions responsible for adult education, employability and entrepreneurship gained increased awareness about innovative methods for personal and professional development of unemployed adults and about ways to supporting them through creative, self-starting processes that can have positive impacts on the wider society. Finally, BRAVE create increased pressure for dedicated national programmes and for the mainstreaming of the innovative methodologies applied in the project.
