Project Summary

Context/background of the project. The THEATER – Technics Handicraft Exchange Around the European Regions – project aims at developing and sharing an innovative panel of non-formal training opportunities for youngsters interested in finding in Theatre an attractive “place” for living and working, and acquiring key competences and technical-professional skills, most of all in the field of costumes design and sets constructions.
Some traditional and very knowledge-based professions are at risks of disappearing, especially in those countries where the tradition is deeply embedded in handicraft with a non-codified knowledge transmission. It is worthwhile to develop both novel ways of cooperation for make the world of theatre and applied arts newly attractive for young generations and for innovate the traditional working techniques thanks to contamination processes. The partners, all Centres of excellence in the field, intend to make shared efforts for obtaining the abovementioned objectives.
Partnership: OMA – Osservatorio dei Mestieri d’Arte (IT); Fondazione Teatro Nazionale Toscana (IT); Fondazione Spazio Reale (IT); ENSAAMA (FR); EYNCRIN – European Youth Network for Creativity and Innovation (BU).
Number and profile of target groups: Youngsters, Teachers and Trainers, Researchers, VET System, Enterprises, Stakeholders, Public Administrators.
Description of undertaken main activities and results attained. The main actions/outputs of the project are the following: 1) Comparative European Research about clusters of key competences connected to costumes design and sets construction; 2) Guide Lines for designing novel non-formal learning and training activities for new costumes designers and scenographers; 3) Testing of thematic laboratories addressed to young people for development of innovation in the field of theatrical costumes and sets, experimenting new work techniques, new unusual materials, also unconventional treatments, through n° 4 blended mobility (transnational training activities); 4) Development of an European Platform and Resources Centre for valorisation and innovation of theatre and applied arts professions, that will maintained over the project as a real international network. The cross-cutting activities are the following: Project Management and Implementation; Monitoring and Evaluation; Communication and Dissemination of intellectual outputs with 4 Multiplier Events and 3 Exhibitions addressed to local communities and stekeholders. Supporters organisations have helped to disseminate the project among European stakeholders.
Impatti di medio-lungo periodo. Adeguamento dell’offerta dei servizi formativi e dei sistemi IFP per la preparazione dei giovani ai mestieri dell’arte e del teatro in chiave attuale e rinnovata; Attivazione di processi e percorsi di contaminazione ed ibridizzazione dei saperi e delle tecniche tradizionali artigiane, in un’ottica di innovazione e realizzazione di “Bottega 3.0”; Incremento dell’attrattività per le giovani generazioni dei mestieri connessi alla macchina teatrale ed alla tradizione sartoriale.
Medium and long-term impacts: Proposal from Education and VET Systems of new training programmes and pathways addressed to youngsters interested in theatre and applied art professions; Implementation of innovative training pathways based on contamination between traditional artisanal competences and new skills and techniques; Increased attractiveness for youngsters of new professions in the field of theatrical costumes design and sets constructions.
