Project Summary
On the background of the increasing number of cyber-bullying, the need to raise awareness about digital footprints, the loss of control over personal informational data, of fake news and a raising number of young people dealing with online addiction our project aimed to adress these problems with four modules to expand the knowledge of students and their school communities in the partner schools in Germany, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Our project was characterized by the main focus on developing and expanding social and civil society capacities. Media skills and critical thinking were main aspects of our project and our aim was to combat discrimination and exclusion as well as bullying and violence in general. To show how one could find a healthy level for digital content consumption was another aim of this project.
Around a hundered students who are between 15 to 19 years old participated during the two and a half years of the project work. The whole school community profited from this project because appropriate anti-bullying programs were refined for the participating schools. There were 4 opportunities for pupils and staff to meet (also digitally) to collate the following results and products:
– Flyer in the respective language: “Guide for students – how to deal with cyber bullying”
– Summary of the most important legal bases, dissemination digital and in paper
– Mindfulness as a nonverbal empowerment of the students with language deficits (especially the ones who are newly arrived in Germany)
– Guideline on how to implement an anti bullying workshop
– Performance of short plays about exclusion (puppet show)
– Differentiated learning material about the subjects of the four modules:
1. Cyber bullying
2. Digital footprint
3. Support for critical thinking
4. Digital resilience
– Videos
– Presentations
The brochures/flyers shall be disseminated beyond the end of the project. They will be distributed on school information events and the concept of an anti-bullying program was included into school programs. Over the long term the participating schools will benefit by enlightening their students and their environment to support a self-determined and healthy digital behaviour and promotes the student’s information skills.
