Project Summary

The effects of migrant continue to inform daily life across Europe. Schools respond to migration has an enormous impact on the social well-being of all members of the communities they serve, whether they have an immigrant background or not. Some schools need to integrate young immigrants and refugees students; most have to face any social exclusion and poverty situation in young people over the course of the economic crisis.

Alice in Wonderland: Discovering our roots” is a two-year project in the framework of ERASMUS Plus Programme, Key Action 229: Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices. It brings together six Primary schools coming from: Northern Ireland (UK), Lithuania, Greece, England (UK), Italy and Spain.

Taking the story of “Alice in Wonderland ” as the starting point and the center of the project, and through using formal and non formal learning activities, such as debates, school projects, art work and encounters with Consulates and international organizations will provide to participants the competencies, skills and knowledge about Inmigration history in partner countries, democracy, how together we achieve more and European cultural heritage.

The objective of the project has been the creation of contexts where teachers have encouraged students to communicate and be aware of the importance of civic education, in order to then be able to analyze, improve and evaluate their work and that of others.
Teachers and students have investigated the evolution of migration and how it has affected the population. Knowing our roots and how migratory flows have occurred in our own and partner European countries, therefore, has made us understand how we have reached the stage in which we are now and how we can develop positively in the future.

To do this, we have achieved its 5 specific objectives

To be aware of the contributions of immigration as a factor of growth and innovation in Europe since the beginning of history.
To incorporate good practices for developing culturally inclusive education in partner schools.
To celebrate inclusion and diversity.
To promote the learner voice.
To raise awareness of European Cultural Heritage

The most important results of the project will be:

-A digital presentation about History of Inmigration in each partner country as well as the meeting at House of Africa and some Consulates established in Gran Canaria, Spain.
– A video about the family parties organized during the different mobilities to share presence of different cultures and traditions including cookery, song and dance, in each partner country.
– A mural of Europe showing location of the partner countries and Migration flows.
– The Project logo.
– A digital presentation about  how together we achieve more: a project developed in each school to improve our community or to promote solidarity.
– A video about teaching and learning activities throughout the project at national level.
– A story or tale on Democracy created by teachers and students in each partner  school.
– A digital presentation probuced by students from each partner school about election of their own representatives.
– A video with art works on Surrealism and Salvador Dalí produced by all partner schools. It will incorporate the hashtag “Where the past meets the future” ( #europeforculture)
-A school portfolio of Evidence.
– A project blog.
– A summary video about the presence of different cultures in each partner country.

The implementation of this project has provided us with a higher level of awareness about the importance of developing inclusive climate in the schools involved which will lead to greater effort in developing and implementing long term inclusion strategies, so we could all engage in making society where diversity is celebrated and differences are respected.
