Project Summary
Long-term democratic and socio-economic development of Youth is a significant asset for Georgia. Youth age is an important period during which biological and psychological growth and development of individuals and their integration into the society takes place. During this period, young people try to develop skills and abilities in order to play their roles across various areas of the public life without hindrance, and to fully realize their potential.Taking into account the best practices existing at the European level the Georgian National Youth Policy regulates a wide range of issues related to the development of persons of 14-29 years of age with the joint efforts of state agencies, the youth, the civil society, the private sector and international and local organizations.Local self-governances should be actively engaged in the development and implementation of youth policy. However, the representatives of these institutions do not possess required knowledge and experience to develop and implement municipal youth policy, which significantly hinders youth policy implementation in Georgia. Also youth workers and local youth lack significantly competences to contribute to youth development at local level and to cooperate constructively with municipal structures. Thus, the proposal “Supporting the Development of Youth Policy on Municipal Level in Georgia” aims to build sustainable capacities for youth participation at local level in Georgia via piloting a capacity building programme for municipal youth workers, youth and youth workers working in CSOs in 6 Georgian municipalities alongside the strategic framework for youth policy development in Georgia.Accordingly, the proposal`s objectives are the following:- To increase the competences of municipal youth workers, youth workers working in CSOs and of young people to design and participate in inclusive decision-making processes on youth issues at local level in Georgia- To strengthen institutional structures and cross-sectoral cooperation between non-governmental CSOs and governmental bodies for youth participation at municipal level in Georgia- To enhance the availability and accessibility educational resources relevant for continuous learning of governmental and non-governmental youth workersThe project is composed of three components which include activities to achieve the project objectives.- Component 1 – Educational Programmes for Competences development of key stakeholders for municipal youth work- Component 2 – Creating sustainable structures for municipal youth work- Component 3 – Educational Resource DevelopmentThe project will develop – as its main result – a blueprint for capacity building of municipal youth work that will via the Georgian Ministry for Sport and Youth Affairs be mainstreamed to all Georgian municipalities by integrating the developed educational materials and approaches to municipal youth work into the national strategy for municipal youth work.
