Project Summary
The project “ F.I.S.T – Fighting against Identies Stereotypes on stage” stems from the still present sexist and gender biased behaviours among young people. It focuses, therefore, on the need to make students overcome some typical stereotypes connected with gender identities and roles. It stresses the role education has in trying to help students stop these gender biased assumptions which can even lead to violent and sexist unconscious. behaviours . The main goal of the project was to foster the awareness of the different gender identities with the purpose to stop students being prejudiced. This goal was achieved by reinforcing the writing skills and the students’ creativity that would have found its peak by performing what the students had written . This latter goal was partially achieved due to Covd-19 pandemic which forced the partners to fit to other forms of acting, namely not on the stage during the mobilities, which were cancelled, but by shooting some videos of their acting . The project saw the participation of 3 countries: Italy (Applicant country) , Latvia Slovenia with three High Secondary Schools . These schools had already been involved in European-oriented projects and they were well equipped to provide the right milieu for the implementation of the project. In total the number of participants per country for the physical mobility activities were 30 ( 18 students , 12 teachers ) but the number of students and teachers involved in the project activities at schools level was wider considering the in -between activities ( e.g. the reserach phase) before the mobility activities and the disseminating actions. Each partner was in charge of putting in practice the creative writing phase (both short stories and original scripts), and drama labs, which were meant to put the performances on the stage. There was 1 physical Short-tem joint staff meeting , which was the first welcoming one in Italy (the Applicant country) ; the second Short-tem joint staff meeting was a virtual one and was hosted by Latvia ; the third and final Short-tem joint staff meeting was also a virtual one and was hosted by Slovenia. There were two physical Short -term exchamges of groups of students , one in Italy with the presentation of the research works , the second one was in Slovenia with the presentation and selection of the short stories to be adapted in scripts. During the third and final virtual Short-tem joint staff meeting in Slovenia the students were given the opportunity to talk about their performance videos, which they had already shared and watched. These meetings were also occasions for the students to face other cultures and lifestyles with the purpose to internationalize their curriculum. All the achievements, short stories, scripts, videos, pictures, reusable material, such as rubric and questionnaire, were upoloaded on a dedicated project website and on the dedicated project school websites. in order to let the public appreciate the work made by students and teachers. The coordinator partner started also a side Etwinning project on the topic.
At the end of the project the students coud develop several skills thanks to this project, both digital and social. acquired higher writing skills, were more aware of their role in the society which implies a higher respect among genders. They are now expected to better cooperate with their peers and with other cultures.
The teachers mainly experienced a new non formal teaching approach which will enrich their methodology , also thanks to the sharing with foreign teachers. These improved methodologies will have an impact on the school organization., to be subsequently used in extra- curricular actvities.
The project was a great challenge and pursued most of its goals, in captivating aboveall students that could be at first skeptical about it. The issue rising from topic proved to be even more current and spread than the students could ever expect and this made them eager to go on working on the project even when the project seemed to remain locked in stalemate with the Covid-19 lockdown.
The students shared their certainty of wanting to deepen the topic even further and using their so far acquired knowledge to make other piers aware of the issue.
The outcomes of the project are meant and supposed to be delivered and presented inside each school to parents, other students and school staff.
So far the schools have used several dissemination approaches to spread the word about the project on the school level and on the national level, namely public meetings, newspaper articles, Erasmus days Celebration, school project dedicated to Women’s Day (March 8), labs on gender stereotypes.
The outcomes of the project are meant and supposed to be delivered and presented inside each school to parents, other students and school staff.
R eadings of the short stories written by the students or the performances of the plays are planned to be proposed to associations, local authorities and schools as a kick off start for different initiatives.
We also had a book printed . The book, whose title is “Everyday Heroes and SHEroes “ contains the results of the project ( short stories, drawings, scripts) together with the student’s motivations .
