Project Summary

The project SCALE UP: Skills, CApacity-building, non-formal Learning & purpose-driven Entrepreneurship for MENA and European Youngsters aims to depict youth employability and youth organizations sustainability through development and embracement of purpose-driven entrepreneurship practice in the context of social economy in the MENA region and Europe. SCALE UP stimulates creation of enabling environment for youth employment but also quality of youth work by supporting the capacity-building of youth and youth organizations in the field of purpose-driven entrepreneurship. Not only SCALE UP empowers young people to become self-employed and to start own social businesses and initiate impact ideas that will bring them revenue, but even more – it will inspire them to make impact and contribute to the advancement of the communities we live in. Nonetheless, SCALE UP boosts the capacity of the civil sector by inspiring strategic thinking, planning and visioning of youth organizations to develop quality and durable programmes in the field, and further – to apply the concept on themselves, developing different business models that will help them remain sustainable, but also will guarantee the long-term impact they are making. As such, the partners will exchange know-how, good practices and will create a joint network that will support the national social entrepreneurship ecosystems, will contribute to the social economy development in their countries as well as will inspire regional cooperation based on good economy principles and social innovations. As historic milestone was marked the announcement of the newly elected president of the EC – Ursula Von der Leyen to initiate a European Action Plan on Social Economy, building future of progress and cohesion of all Europeans. The Ministerial Declaration of the 4th Union for Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Employment and Labor 2019 put an unequivocal emphasis on Social Economy, not only as an alternative way of delivering economic, social and environmental value, but also a smart way of unlocking resources, creating sustainable employment, and generating inclusive economic growth in the region. As social economy (SocEc) as a concept is gaining popularity in Europe, social entrepreneurship (SE) is becoming “trendy” in MENA: numerous stakeholders identify the SE as a solution to the high unemployment, to the lack of job creation as well as to the semi-closed economic systems. Yet, the local realities show a lack of deeper understanding of the term and its wider context, a lack of SE ecosystem infrastructure as well as sustainability of the social enterprises. SCALE UP brings partners from ROM, MKD, IT, PL, DZA, JOR, and TN united in their need to contribute towards an economy of solidarity and community by developing quality youth programmes on ,purpose-driven entrepreneurship and sustaining their organizations – being less donor-dependent and maintaining high quality of operations.
