Project Summary
UNESCO notes that 90% of the information that young people receive is audiovisual and that this medium is essential in the construction of values. The European Audiovisual Observatory and SEGIB address that there is still a deficit in audiovisual literacy in European and Latin American citizens. The European Commission emphasizes that 8 out of 10 high school students do not distinguish the “fake news” from the facts. In this regard, youth need skills to discern the audiovisual narrative they receive and, at the same time, produce and share their own messages .The UN emphasizes that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a framework to enhance the active participation of young people at the local level. According to the COE and the OIJ, there is also a deficit in the knowledge, understanding and practice of the SDGs among young people from both regions. So youth need to create their own content about the SDGs to get closer and understand them.In this context, the main objectives of this high-level cooperation between European and Latin American entities in the field of youth are:1. Promote the understanding and achievement of the SDGs among youth of both regions (especially in six SDGs: Peace and Justice; Gender Equity; Quality Education; Decent Work; Climate Action; and Reduction of Inequalities).2. Increase audiovisual literacy competences of youth and youth workers; and3. Generate innovative practices that combine and strengthen the two previous points. To get this:1. An Infographic Report on the Status of the SDG Issue and audiovisual literacy in participating countries will be prepared.2. A new Non-Formal Education Guide will be designed on how to work and promote the SDGs in youth through audiovisual literacy.3. There will be 6 Audiovisual Educational Resources that promote knowledge of the SDGs among youth.4. The 1st International Film Festival on SDGs will be held to bring SDGs and audiovisual literacy to the youth of both regions.5. The Youth Network for the SDGs will be created and consolidated in both regions. The target groups are young people or youth leaders with fewer opportunities (to counter misinformation, approach and implement the SDGs), youth workers (use media literacy to promote the SDGs), youth entities (offer innovative practices that strengthen the quality of youth work), local communities (foster dialogue and knowledge of the SDGs) and project partners (improve cooperation between entities from both regions). Our proposal contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the 2030 Youth Pact, as well as the Youth Goals (2019-2027) of the EU, the New European Agenda for Culture, the Six Priorities of the European Commission 2019-2024 and to the Erasmus+ Programme itself.
