Project Summary

ENLIGHT’s mission is to contribute to the fundamental transformation of European HE by empowering learners as globally engaged citizens with knowledge, skills, and innovation potential to tackle major societal transitions and to promote equitable quality of life and sustainability.
Like a lighthouse guiding sailors to shore, ENLIGHT will guide students to become lifelong learners and change-agents ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
ENLIGHT unites 9 comprehensive, research-intensive HEIs from 9 European countries sharing a deep social commitment. It strives to transform how we address global challenges by new models for learning and research, focusing on 5 flagship areas:
1. Health and well-being
2. Digital revolution and Impact of digitalisation
3. Climate change
4. Energy and Circular economy
5. Equity
ENLIGHT will use its local environments (cities and regions) across Europe as living labs for (lifelong) learning and research to address complex societal challenges.
ENLIGHT will develop a new methodology to establish a HE competence framework along 6 actions:
1. Develop a joint Quality Approach as the basis of a European University System;
2. Develop a co-creation (HEI + regional actors) methodology to define knowledge skills learners need to tackle challenges;
3. Foster generic competences and global engagement among students and staff;
4. Develop an inclusive, flexible and green mobility framework;
5. Develop a structural dialogue with local, European and global stakeholders;
6. Develop a comprehensive methodology to measure impact on learners and their socio-economic environment.
By 2030 ENLIGHT will fully embed the competence framework and establish an integrated European University System, as a role model for European HE. It will transfer its actions to new areas leading to new research and innovation projects. Thousands of ENLIGHT alumni will disseminate European values and challenge-based approaches across Europe and beyond.
