Project Summary

Our project comes from the observation of societies in our countries, which lacks social cohesion, suffers from polarization, radicalisation of attitudes and inability to run a dialogue. People tend to not understand political systems, follow populistic opinions, lack criticism and knowledge about systemic consequences of political decisions. In addition, we as societies are loosing ability to effectively communicate with each other while being stuck on our own opinions. This results in misunderstandings, hardening minds and radicalisation of opinions, even extremism and destroying a community. What we need then is restoration of basic democratic skills, civic and social competences among adults based on common values and civic engagement.
This project is about civic education for adults done in a consortium of partners more or less experienced in the field aimed at preparing ourselves to serve the mission of civic education for adults reaching to improving democratic skills of local communities in our countries through exchange of best practices in this field.
The aim of the project is therefore to prepare ourselves, our staff and organisations to provide innovative and adjusted to adult learners civic education opportunities to higher civic competences of adult learners from our communities, and through that contribute to more cohesive democratic societies.
The objectives of the projects are:
– to exchange best practices, tools and methods of civic education and adult education from our countries used in different contexts and conditions and explore their potential for adult target groups in our organisations,
– to strengthen competences of adult educators in our organisations and beyond and equip them with inspirations for new activities using acquired methods and tools,
– to higher the number of adult educators in our cities,
– to test different tools and methods from other countries and apply them in other contexts and with target groups of each partner organisation,
– to reflect critically about civic education for adult learners in the context of methods, tools, accessible opportunities, as well as results and its essence and share this reflection with adult education sector.
The project will involve the staff of 25 adult educators who will work on sharing and adapting practices, another 25 future adult educators, and 150 adult learners engaged directly to the test of methods and tools shared. Indirectly it will reach approximately 500 adult learners who will benefit from actities organised by educators using shared methodologies and tools. We will also reach at least 30 experts, decision makers, experienced educators, practitioners who will be engaged into critical reflection of methodic, essence of civic education for adults etc.
Long term impact will embrace shaping better local communities based on democratic values, active participation of citizens and competences for a public communication.
