Project Summary
Peer Support + is a strategic partnership in the field of adult education, between three user based mental health organizations, from Iceland, Netherlands and Estonia.
The project aims to address the need for continuing education by capitalizing on a difficult life experience and the need for improved mental health support. We believe that training and learning about peer support, for adults with mental health problems, constitutes an effective response to both these needs.
The goal of Peer Support+ is to develop innovative solutions for adult learning about peer support in mental health.
The specific objectives of the project are:
O1. To promote peer support for people with lived experience of mental health challenges and its important role for recovery.
O2. To provide learning opportunities and recognition of learning for adults with lived experience of mental health challenges, for the role of peer supporter.
O3. To develop tools and resources that will increase the capacity of mental health organizations to offer peer support services.
During the project, an international training on peer support will be organized in Iceland and 15 experts by experience in mental health will be trained and certified as peer support workers. Two intellectual outputs will be developed: an online course and an ebook, both about peer support, its basic principles, working methods, skills needed, techniques and resources. Both the training and the intellectual outputs will enhance the empowerment and the qualification of people with lived experience of mental health challenges, will increase their chances on the job market, will build the capacities of the partner organizations by systematizing their experience with peer support and will provide new opportunities for people with mental health challenges to receive support.
The educational tools will be disseminated through online, media channels and face-to-face events, thus reaching peers, mental health organizations and adult educators from the partner countries and around Europe and enriching the landscape of learning opportunities for adults, as well as the support solutions for people who face mental health challenges.
