Project Summary

The project “TIntercultural Learning and Social Inclusion Through Culture” starts from the common needs of the 5 partner institutions from Germany, Turkey, Portugal, Spain and France. Youth workers in these countries work with multicultural groups of young people of various nationalities and ethnicities due to migration (Germany, Portugal and France), with young people from various social and educational backgrounds (ES),with young people from various countries in Asia and Europe (TUR).
The needs of the partners were identified by designing and distributing an MCQ questionnaire (with multiple choice options), with three questions on (1) the intercultural social context in the region of each partner, (2) the needs of youth workers and (3) the topics that young people from the region of each partner feel attracted. Each question had 14 – 6 – 6 variants of answers that highlighted a similar social context, common needs of youth workers and affinities of young people for topics related to culture and media.
The partners have chosen this topic starting from:
• The existence in their regions of multicultural populations from various walks of life: migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, low income, low level of education, physical disabilities and a context in which a monocultural approach predominates, on culture majority, with rare references to cultural, ethnic and religious minorities.
• The idea that cultural and social diversity makes it difficult for many young people to adapt to the groups they belong to.
• Reduced intercultural competences of young people, which slows down the adaptation of their behavior to multicultural groups.
• Analysis of the needs assessment questionnaire, which shows the attractiveness of young people for cultural elements and media.
• The positive impact that cultural elements have on young people, on social cohesion, observed through the results obtained in their local projects and previous Erasmus, Arts for inclusion (TR) and Arts against violence (ES, FR).
• The social and educational value of cultural heritage and UNESCO elements, in informal and non-formal learning;
• The need for new participatory and intercultural approaches to cultural heritage, multimedia resources and educational initiatives aimed at encouraging intercultural dialogue.
Youth workers in partner institutions need new skills to create non-formal, attractive and motivating resources and activities to help young people adapt to groups and reduce marginalization.
The main aim of the project is to allow 75 youth workers from the 5 partner organizations, as target groups, to exchange ideas, practices and methods to reduce the risks of marginalization and discrimination in their regions and promote social inclusion. .
Project objectives for youth workers:
1. To acquire knowledge, skills, new and innovative non-formal activities for the education of young people from multicultural groups, using as support the elements of the national cultural heritage.
2. To develop new skills to create attractive multimedia resources, of European value, with a positive impact on the mutual knowledge of young people and social cohesion in the group.
3. To create a common intercultural digital portfolio, eg a project web page, with photos, texts and films with intercultural content, as a valuable European resource.
The need for a transnational project.
The need for a transnational project is justified by the 3 objectives of the project, which could not be achieved through a national project; cultural diversity means a diversity of nonformal educational approaches; the ability to create multimedia resources of European value and the creation of a common intercultural digital portfolio with resources of European value means collaboration at European level.
The project methodology will consist of LTTAs based on non-formal activities using as support the national cultural elements and UNESCO heritage; each partner will bring new approaches that will add value to the project. The methodology will be completed by ICT activities through which the media products of the project will be made (photos and videos).
The collaboration and exchanges of practices between the five partners will make it possible to obtain results materialized in new skills of education of young people from multicultural groups and new approaches to respond to social and cultural diversity; new skills for creating multimedia resources; at least 5 new types of non-formal activities; creating an intercultural digital portfolio with educational resources of European value.
