Project Summary

CONTEXT & OBJECTIVES
ClimART 2.0 builds on the success resulted from a previous project ClimART, financed by the Erasmus+ KA02 and aimed at developing, transferring and implementing innovative methodologies for learning climate change through art and theatre
Due to the fact that:
– climate change is still one of the biggest challenges of our time and it still has many weaknesses and faces several barriers
– art, and especially visual art, can be the key to overcome these barriers and enable effective communication
– many other schools expressed interest in participating in the ClimART project

ClimART 2.0 aims to strengthen the intellectual outputs of the previous ClimART project and transfer scientific knowledge to teachers and students through a different artistic technique: comics and graphic novels.

To achieve this general goal, the following specific goals have been defined:
– To promote the professional development of High School teachers strengthening their competences to introduce in High School curricula the climate change issue.
– To reinforce the awareness of High School students through high-quality international experience based on the development of comics and graphic novels about climate change.
– To strengthen the acquisition of key competences (science, art, English language) in High School studies, including disadvantaged learners.

PARTICIPANTS
ClimART 2.0 partnership includes four High Schools (I.I.S. Aldini Valeriani, IES Botànic Cavanilles, Agios Vasileios Gymnasium-Strovolos, SJ Greek French High School) and three non-high schools (CRESOL, Area Europa and Spostamenti). CRESOL and Area Europa, which makes available Eva Merloni, the project manager of ClimART, were involved in the previous project and they will capitalize, replicate and reinforce the experience gained before.

The countries represented by the partners are Italy, Spain, Cyprus and Greece.
The direct target groups of ClimART 2.0 are 100 students and 8 teachers from 4 Schools located in sensitive areas to climate change impacts. Indirectly, ClimART 2.0 will benefit other groups, mainly teachers from other high schools (100) and professionals working in the field of climate change and art (100).

ACTIVITIES AND METHODOLOGY
ClimART 2.0 implementation follows this structure:
Beginning – Signature of bilateral agreements, preparation of activities
High school staff training – Preparation of a technical podcasts for teachers about the Climate Change Learning material and Guide elaborated in the previous project, ClimART
High school student training – use of non-formal education about the Climate Change through the use of digital, shared and interactive tools
Closure – Final evaluation road map for future joint ventures
Project Management (transversal) – Bi-monthly reports, virtual and transnational meetings
Dissemination (transversal) – ClimART2.0 website, social networks, meetings, mainly addressed high-school students and teachers and professionals.

INTELLECTUAL OUTPUTS
ClimART 2.0 uses the following IOs developed by ClimART:
IO1: Climate Change Learning material
IO3: Methodological guidelines for activation of thematic laboratories
IO4: Toolkit for transferring technical knowledge to the high school students

The IOs produced by ClimART 2.0 are:
IO1: Podcasts for high school teachers: Climate Change Learning material and Guide
IO2: Storytelling techniques: methodologies and Guide
IO3: Cartoon-based methodological guidelines for activation of thematic laboratories: a meta-comic
IO4: Interactive platform for sharing and transferring technical knowledge to the high school students and among the teachers
IO5: Thematic laboratories for comics

RESULTS AND IMPACTS
It is expected that ClimART2.0 implementation contributes at:
Updating the high school teachers’ competences regarding climate change, art and English
Facilitating new opportunities for high school students to express their creativity and acquire new competences through high-quality, innovative learning and international experience
Strengthening key competences (science, art and English) in high school students
