Project Summary
The project Sustainable Migrantour Routes aims to: expand the existing Migrantour network into new three cities and reshape the concept of European cultural heritage to include the voices and stories of migrants/refugees as they are shared through intercultural urban walks (Migrantours) including digital storytelling features. At the same time, Migrantour Sustainable Routes seeks to respond to migrant/refugee needs for training, for recognizing their expertise, and for developing their sense of belonging through civic participation while promoting a sustainable form of cultural tourism. The project’s objectives are to enhance the target groups’ (migrants/refugees) belonging , civic involvement and active citizenship through engaging with cultural heritage. Through transnational cooperation, we will motivate our target groups to recognize the importance of cooperation, active participation, and social inclusion as basic values of the European Union.
The partnership is composed by 7 experienced organisations from Copenhaghen (Denmark), Milan (Italy), Ljubljiana (Slovenia), Utrecht (Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium), Lisbon (Portugal) and Barcelona (Spain) with respective/complementary expertise in project management, storytelling, migrant/refugee social inclusion and upskilling, sustainable cultural tourism, Migrantour Network, digital mapping, and web platforms. Sustainable Migrantour Routes intends to implement: – 4 transnational project meetings – 1 JSTE – 4 BlendedMobilities – 3 Intellectual Outputs – 7 Multiplier Events – Monitoring and Evaluation activities – Dissemination activities – for migrant/refugee Migrantour guides during a period of 24 months of project activities running from 01/03/2021 till 28/02/2023.
The current proposal builds on the successful and sustainable Migrantour network and enhances it by contributing the following 3 planned Intellectual Outputs: 1) ITINERARIES & SCRIPTS FOR 7 NEW MIGRANTOUR ROUTES – one in each partner city 2) ONLINE MIGRANTOUR TRAINING TOOL-KIT 3) Sustainable Migrantour Routes WEB PLATFORM &DIGITAL INTERACTIVE STORY MAPS – one in each partner city. All the Intellectual Outputs are interconnected and will result in: expanding the existing Migrantour Network into three new cities (Barcelona, Copenhagen, Utrecht); creating a pedagogically-grounded, learner-centered training toolkit for Migrantour guides available online as an open educational resource (OER); and launching an OER digital archive of interactive story maps to capture the migrant voices in European cities thus broadening European cultural heritage. The JSTEis planned to be held in the Netherlands, and will be a T.o.T. (Training of Trainers) for the partners’ staff during which they will gain the necessary skills in digital storytelling to create the digital interactive story maps and also multimedia materials for the online toolkit. The blended mobilities will pair senior Migrantour cities with new ones and the senior guides will serve as trainers and peer-mentors for the new guides. The project foresees an enormous and effective impact at local, regional, national and European level on various target groups
(migrants/refugees) and it is certainly sustainable also after the project ends; as the Migrantour walks generate job opportunities in the tourism sector while they promote civic participation and social inclusion changing the narrative on migration to highlight its positive contribution to cultural heritage. The project will be an example of sustainable tourism, as the walks are socially, economically and environmentally sustainable and will expand zero-mile cultural heritage tourism opportunities in the partner cities.
