Project Summary

Organizations from Poland, Slovenia and Italy have diagnosed problems such as the low ICT competences among seniors, too little awareness of the value of cultural heritage, too large a generation gap, and insufficiently developed intergenerational dialogue.

PROJECT AIMS
– To create innovative intellectual outputs for educators working with seniors;
– To raise level of key competences among seniors in the area of understanding and creating information, ICT, personal, social and in the field of learning as well as cultural awareness and expression;
– To build awareness about the European cultural heritage and European identity;
– To activate older people and to support intergenerational dialogue;
– To strengthen the potential of partner organizations.

TARGET GROUPS
• Educators working with older people in various institutions, such as universities of the 3rd age, therapy workshops, community centers, NGOs, libraries, activity clubs, etc.
• Seniors – people interested in intergenerational and intercultural dialogue, willing to develop activity, share knowledge and experience in the field of cultural heritage.
• Participants of dissemination conferences (representatives of institutions);
• Experts – an international interdisciplinary team that while working on the results will also develop competences and expand knowledge;
• Partner organizations and other entities working for seniors

The project consists in developing innovative results of intellectual work for educators working with seniors. The results will support the competences of seniors in the field of cultural storytelling using ICT. We want to support seniors in acquiring the skills to talk about cultural heritage, especially to younger generations, which is why we anticipate the use of modern technologies. An international team of experts (2-4 people from each country) will be set up to work on the results. They will be people with extensive experience, expert knowledge and documented successes.

INTELLECTUAL OUTPUTS
1) “Cultural Storytelling” training course: class scenarios for seniors.
The course will consist of a series of workshops for seniors.
OBJECTIVE: To equip elderly people with knowledge and tools supporting intergenerational and intercultural dialogue, aimed at dissemination, promotion of local cultural heritage, interesting places and related stories.

The course will consist of 4 thematic modules:
MODULE I – Introduction to storytelling
MODULE II – Local cultural heritage
MODULE III – Storytelling on the web
MODULE IV – Multimedia for the promotion of cultural heritage

2) A set of storytelling cards – story cards about local cultural heritage.
Story cards are an increasingly common tool for stimulating storytelling. This tool fits the needs of people who want to master the difficult art of conscious storytelling.
We will create a unique and innovative storytelling tool for constructing stories about the region’s cultural heritage and reflection on its meaning. The cards will be prepared in such a way as to build intergenerational dialogue (seniors – young people), based on a review of proven narrative structures and models, repeated in the most engaging stories. Hints, slogans, suggestions, questions contained on the cards will become a pretext for the story and conversation, structure and extract “hidden knowledge”, especially about intangible heritage (knowledge, skills, practices, ideas, values, images, messages).

3) Manual / ebook
It will contain:
PART I – Description of the Method
• Cultural heritage as a carrier of values;
• Storytelling as a method to promote cultural heritage;
• Seniors as communicators of values, history and cultural heritage;
• Benefits of activating seniors and including them in the information society
• Advantages and benefits of intergenerational and intercultural dialogue.

PART II – Catalog of good practices
It will provide inspiration. Specific examples can be found in the catalog
showing interesting ways of disseminating cultural heritage using storytelling methods. Each partner will describe a minimum of 15 good practices (a minimum of 45 in total) in the use of storytelling to promote the local cultural heritage.

PLANNED ACTIONS
• 5 international meetings of the staff;
• 1 international workshop for educators working with seniors (testing results stage)
• 9 dissemination workshops for seniors (3 in each country);
• 3 conferences (1 in each country)

The project falls under priority VI: PROMOTING THE ERASMUS + PROGRAM AMONG ALL CITIZENS AND GENERATIONS, INCLUDING BY OFFERING EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCES FOR THE ELDERLY TO BUILD EDUCATION.
