Project Summary

Honour related conflicts are increasing in amount in Europe. Finnish Federation of Settlement houses together in partnership with Italian, Finnish and Jordanian organizations want to a discuss the project’s themes in national as well as European networks and find new ways to act together against honour related conflicts and support the youth who are the victims of it .

PRO YOUTH addresses the issue of honour based violence, including honour killing, forced marriage and gender-based conflicts and violence. Pro Youth project is a joint innovative project of partners from Finland, Italy and Jordan, who all work on the honour based violence issues nationally, as well as in cooperation transnationally. Pro Youth is implemented by three NGOs working with the phenomenon and the victims of honour based conflicts and violence, in order to share experience, knowledge and good practices regarding the issue. Moreover, the project co-creates practices and actual tools with intercultural approach for the use of the youth and the professionals working with youth. To ground the sharing of knowledge and good practices, and the development of the manual and the application, there will be a survey made in each project partner’s country to gain yet increased authentication on the issue at a national level, before developing the tools (a manual and a mobile application).

Pro Youth empowers the professionals and authorities who work with youth as well as the youth themselves, who are involved in the project from design stages to implementation and dissemination. The target groups are the professionals and authorities working with the youth as well as the youth itself. Furthermore, there will be a vast network of associated partners involved in each partner country. These are for example other operatives, which work within the same topic, honour-related violence and conflict work or who need increased knowledge and understanding for their operations and work. The aim is also to involve other EU countries and operatives during the project and especially towrads the dissemination stages.

Objectives of Pro Youth:
– Fostering and building the knowledge level, understanding and experiences of the professionals who work with youth
– Improving the recognizing of cultural based violence and the ability to intervene, promoting the European framework for understanding the dynamics and related issues and on how to support and help the victims or potential victims of it
– Providing tools for youth to recognize, and to get information and support on violence and directions on how to get help (locally)
– Working with the police and police students to further the understanding and ability to adequately confron HBV and support the victims
– Disseminating the manual to other youth work organizations and operatives, as well as related social workers and authorities
– Disseminating the mobile app among the youth through multiplier event through a local, national and International stakeholder (such as: youth organizations, schools and social media).
– Increasing the transnational cooperation in EU on the topic of honour based violence, and the related issues of promoting knowledge, tools and safety.
