Project Summary

Statistics in all countries all over Europe also demonstrate (even if to a different extent depending on national structures) the risk of social exclusion and of poverty especially at an older age of women if not having an own adequate income over their life-time. National social programmes provide different funding and protection schemes for maternity leaves, which may encourage women staying at home or rejoining work. The length of the absence from the labour market may always be seen in relation to these fundings and to specific components like: the level of education and possible income a woman might achieve; the structural preconditions like the availability of care for children and elderly family members, availability or distance of working place.
Thus it can be proved that long absences from the labour market are bigger the lower the level of education and the worse the social infrastructure in the living place. Women in such disadvantaged areas face multiple problems. A part from the lack of adequate service provision for family duties and reduced job opportunities often there is not even counselling or support services available in such deprived areas, or they only have reduced opening hours which are not compatible with the family duties, which makes it hard for those women to re-join the labour market. For this reason also countries were selected with lower structural offers to support these women in this process.

The preliminary partner research has shown that women, after staying at home for some time with small children often struggle with:
• Traditional family patterns, self-confidence, doubts about work-family balance, motivation to seek a job;
• Adequate skills, knowledge, professional training, knowledge about their labor rights, information about available support for childcare;
• Lack of support networks, mentors, trainers.

Thus, the RE-START project aims to specifically address those disadvantaged women and provide them specific support tools which they might even use on their mobile in order to empower them and assist them in the orientation and re-entering process. To adress these needs (empowerment – orientation- support) of the target group the project aims to deliver 3 different online Moduls and one motivatonal Module with country specific role models.

In the national pilots RE-START will involve 25 women of this specific target group per IO per country. But the Moduls being online they can be used by every women of this target group and especially women will benefit
– in areas apart from city centers where professional face to face counselling is not available.
– who have family tasks to fulfill as they can use it at convenient times for them. They do not have to match appointments with times childcare is available, or which do not coincidence with family tasks.
The materials can be used even by professionals to support the reflection and empowerment part of the client in their counselling sessions.

The RE-START online package shall deliver them a holistic package for empowerment of women to reenter professional life in order to reduce their risk of social exclusion and poverty, specifically at older age. Thus the project shall significantly impact their chances to do so and by this contribute to a better social and economic situation of the women and their families.
