The problems of youth safety are common in 4 countries. What is also common is the role that youth organizations (consortium organizations but also NGOs at the local and national level) have in working on these issues and serving as the bridge between young people and institutions. Having a bigger outreach through non-formal education, the role of youth organizations and youth workers is of a great importance. That is why this project will deal with the safety issues of young people in 4 countries through empowerment of youth workers and educators and development of innovative methods to raise the awareness about important issues. Newly developed tools will focus on 5 segments: peer violence, cyber bullying, abuse of psychoactive substances, discrimination and mental health in time of COVID–19
General objective:
To contribute to the development of a safety culture of young people
Specific objectives:
• To develop new methods of youth work in the field of youth safety
• To equip youth workers and educators with set of new educational tools in the field of youth safety
• To raise the awareness about safety issues in local communities in 4 countries
Planned activities:
1.Transnational Projects Meeting 1 – Coordination meeting – will be organized in Nis, Serbia in March 2021
2. Development of Intellectual Output – “Safebook” manual – 4 partner organizations and experts and youth workers coming from these 4 organizations will develop “Safebook” manual focusing on 5 segments of youth safety: peer violence, cyber bullying, abuse of psychoactive substances, discrimination and mental health of young people in the period of COVID – 19. In this way the project will result in the increased number of methodologies for youth workers/educators working in the field of youth safety and improved quality of youth work methods in 4 participating countries. Period: April / August 2021
3. Mid – evaluation meeting – will be organized online with the project coordination team in August 2021
4.Testing the new methods – Local workshops – partners’ experts and youth workers who created the “Safebook” manual will test the manual and organize local workshops in Serbia, Croatia, North Macedonia and Italy to test newly adopted methods working with youth workers and young people (20 per country). In this way the quality and applicability of the workshops will be checked while at the same time youth workers and educators will be equipped with set of new educational tools in the field of youth safety. Period: September / November 2021
5. Multiplier events – Every partner organization will organize 1 multiplier event that will include at least 20 youth workers, educators and activities outside the partner organization. This activity will increase the use of the newly developed “Safebook” manual and at the same time raise the awareness about youth safety in local communities of the project. Period: November 2021/January 2022
6.Transnational Projects Meeting 2 – Final evaluation meeting -will be organized in Orta Nova, Italy in February 2022
Main expected result of the “Safebook” project and its activities is to develop and transfer new and innovative methodology and creative tools and to incorporate them in new and youth friendly manual for youth workers in the field of youth safety and security. Through development of this manual new opportunities for promotion and advancement of the certain areas in non-formal education but also in other sectors such as formal education and sport sectors, like prevention of discrimination, peer violence, cyber bulling and abuse of psychoactive substances as well as protection of mental health of youth during COVID-19 will arise from multiplication and dissemination of the mentioned manual.
Another very important expected result upon the project completion is to have significant increase in capacity building activities and projects which are aiming at building the capacities of youth workers, peer educators, volunteers and activists in the areas which are the topic of this project. Finally, one of the expected results is the involvement of other youth NGOs and relevant institutions in the use of the newly developed tools. Project activities will have one final result in the form of well written, youth friendly and innovative manual for youth workers in the field of youth safety. The manual will later be promoted among NGOs, youth workers and peer educators not only from Serbia, North Macedonia, Italy and Croatia, but also from other EU and non-EU countries in order to transfer new and fresh ideas for implementation of projects concerning the potential risks of youth safety
