Project Summary

The social distancing determined by health security measures has caused a profound and destabilizing change in the daily habits of everyone, especially the young, who have found themselves “prisoners” in the home.
The IWB started asking questions about how young people:
– have dealt with this particular emergency situation,
– have managed the times and commitments,
– can strengthen their self-esteem, self-respect and respect for others,
– can be spokespersons for active citizenship and social inclusion.
The possible solution devised relies on “cultural heritage”.
Taking care of cultural heritage means evoking values, critical thinking, awareness of the past and wisdom for the future to come.
“Our heritage: where the past meets the future”. “Cultural heritage shapes our identity and our daily life. It surrounds us in the cities and villages of Europe, when we are immersed in natural landscapes or when we find ourselves in archaeological sites. It is not just about literature, art and objects, but also about the crafts learned from our ancestors, the stories we tell our children, the food we enjoy in company and the films we watch to recognize ourselves “.
The “Solutions’ Heritage” project therefore intends to initiate an innovative participatory dialogue, which will be generational and multicultural at the same time, since on the one hand it will protect the inestimable heritage of the wisdom of the elderly, making them protagonists of the future, and on the other hand it will strengthen cultural inclusive cooperation between different countries.
Through the narration and memories of the elderly it is possible to reflect on events and create a generational continuum, a passage between the “old” and the “new” generation that must never be interrupted, but which must preserve the educational role of the elderly and the value of their knowledge.
The originality lies in taking care of the potential of this intangible heritage, sometimes unknown, which could make new generations aware of stories, experiences, anecdotes and ancient crafts.
The creative innovation is given by the mixture of the topics covered and the methodologies used, which will develop a new cultural heritage, increase aggregation moments and facilitate the meeting between generations through storytelling and listening.
The choice of the role play tool and the particular configuration of the events that will punctuate it is also innovative, given by the study and by a careful analysis of the variables and indicators collected during interviews with the elderly and young people.
The role play allows, in fact, to simulate a particular social profile and therefore to experiment with one’s own identity and to understand the tacit mechanisms and rules that govern social relationships and inclusion.
The “Solutions’ Heritage” project will run for 24 months starting from May 2021 and will lead to the creation of 3 Intellectual Outputs.
The analysis of the “testimonies” from this intercultural dialogue will lead to the design of a creative and innovative online sociological survey model (Intellectual Output 1), aimed at understanding the needs of young people and giving possible solutions, taking an example from past generations. The idea is to create a virtual memory of the culture of 3 European countries, which by collaborating with each other give the new generations creative tools to face current risks and reveal opportunities that can be sought in a critical context, such as our grandparents. they reacted to the post-war crisis.
The generational continuum will be strengthened by the creation of a role-playing game (Intellectual Output 2), in which the young people belonging to the sample will be protagonists and will have to face specific challenges. At the end of the game the path made by each child will be analyzed and indications will be given regarding the choices made and the achievement of the best performance.
Intellectual Output 3 will be the drafting of a Vademecum of the solutions to be adopted in emergency situations and social challenges.
