Project Summary

“SuperModels, a successful fashion model who has reached the status of a celebrity”
“On board, as part of a group or team, especially for a special purpose”. (Oxford dictionary)

During 24 months, the 3 involved partners from Belgium, Serbia and Portugal are developing 2 innovative IOs based upon the common identified need for a more effective education towards gender equality. Even though our 3 realities (socially, economically, culturally) are very different, the gender equality aspect is a shared concern and identified need. Gender equality is still far from being a reality in each of our realities, both in rural and urban contexts. The current available educational tools are not sufficient, neither effective in our nowadays contexts. “Supermodels on boARd” will create 2 IOs that will increase the social inclusion of young people, especially young girls/ women by promoting Gender equality as one of the key values of European society. Gender norms (or rules) tell us what is appropriate for girls/boys, women/men to do in our society. Because of this, girls and women are often less valued and have lower social status, such as access to education, access to work, equality of salary, etc.
We use a provocative word game to frame the concept of Supermodels as a female role model within present European society. SUPER in our project stands for Solidarity, Unity, Participation, Empowerment and Responsibility. Inspired and motivated by the priorities of our own structures (and of the EU Youth Strategy), this project brings together young people and professionals in order to design and implement innovative practices that will: (a) empower ‘marginalised’ youth and (b) increase the capacity of youth service providers, notably in the areas of integration, equality and inclusion, fight against gender-based violence and discrimination. The project aims to develop innovative non-formal learning methods on the topics of gender stereotyping and discrimination, using gamification mixed with new-age multimedia, which may take place in an organized context or independently in everyday life.
Objectives:
– To improve understanding of key concepts in the areas of gender discrimination and current use and future capacities of new-age digital media in non-formal and informal learning in Europe through in-depth learner-centered participatory research on methods, tools and practices
– To increase infrastructure and organizational knowledge of partners in the form of strategic alliance and capacity building in the areas of gender and social equality, inclusion and fight against gender discrimination
– To develop interdisciplinary methodology “SuperModels on Board” to support young people with fewer opportunities with new skills/competences in their engagement in civil society at local and European levels, on the topics of gender equality and gender mainstreaming
– To respond to the needs in the youth field on integration challenges faced by youth with fewer opportunities who are affected by gender-based violence and discrimination.
With the support of the project results, partners will equip professionals and service providers in the youth field and young people with the needed competencies and understanding how to stand up for ‘SUPER models’ in a constructive and more efficient/effective way. This consortium is built by 2 NGOs (one from Serbia and one ‘newcomer’ from Belgium) and 1 social company (from Portugal) and they have engaged in both IOs with a clear focus on the topic of ‘gender equality’, and on bringing new, digital technologies (Augmented Reality = AR) into Non-Formal Education and the Youth sector. Each of the involved partners is bringing in their own expertise (boardgame, comics and online tools), creating a multidisciplinary team.
The 2 IOs have the same objective to support/accelerate progress and achieving real equality between genders, in a different complementary ‘shape’:
1) an educational boardgame with 2 AR apps; groups between 6 to 36 players
2) a comic (cartoon book) with 2 AR apps; ideal as preparation or follow up of the boardgame, more focused on individual level, with interaction possibilities in small groups.
Important features:
* Both are inter-linked and complementary, but can be used autonomously and separate as well.
* Both qualitatively supported also by a ‘Learning Teaching Training’ blended activity.
* Both accompanied with a manual (with pedagogical and youth work material and peer learning methods – to provide some step-by-step guidelines on how to use specific tools for problem identification and situation analysis, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. It also gives insights into the use of tools for gender mainstreaming in organizations and at policy levels.)
Besides concrete differentiated impact on organisational/community level of all 3 partners involved, impact is foreseen on European scale through our dissemination plan. IOs will remain available on long term.
