Project Summary

The CHARMS (European Chamber Music Partnership for Students) project is a strategic partnership for cooperation and exchange of good practices that connects “Sigismund Toduta” Music College, Cluj-Napoca, Romania with Fasang Music School, Budapest, Hungary. Both are significant organisations in the field of music education in their countries, promoting the excellence using different, but relevant methods.
The valuable experience acquired over years could be used to provide a better specialized tuition for our students. This exchange of good practices will contribute to the acquisition of relevant high quality skills and competences in chamber music playing, that will bring added value to the training of the complete future performing musician, capable to an easier integration into the labor market. In addition, the teachers will benefit by achieving new teaching strategies, working methods, new perspectives on working with different chamber music ensembles.

The objectives pursued through the project are:
O1 – Promoting the international dimension of the activity of the two partner institutions and promoting the cross-cultural awareness through chamber music.
O2 – Exchanging of good practices, new teaching methods, learning ideas, new approaches to chamber music interpretation in order to increase the quality of the teaching.
O3 – Improving key competences: teamwork, easy adaption to change, adaption to new colleagues, new leaders, better communication and collaboration between people (interpersonal skills), creativity, critical thinking, solving problems, decision making (cross competences) and linguistic competence.
O4 – Developing and improving of the specific skills of the chamber music interpretation: adaptation in a chamber ensemble regardless of its size or component, the methods and techniques of playing together, high level interpretation techniques, understanding the musical text and the scenic moment and the psychological preparation for the presentation on stage of the repertoire.
O5 – Promoting social inclusion, equity, gender balance, non-discrimination, charity-volunteering through chamber music.

The project is addressed to students between the ages of 14 and 19 from “Sigismund Toduta” Music College and Fasang Music School students from different chamber music ensembles. Each organization will select 25 pupils for the both mobility in Romania/Hungary. These students will be involved in rehearsals, workshops, masterclasses, recitals and concerts. The selected students will correspond to the high school grades that study chamber music, regardless of the social category they belong to, with a different level of training. The students will benefit during the mobility also, of the involvement in unique chamber music ensembles by combining the existing ensembles. This will bring added value to learning by offering the students the opportunity to play in chamber ensembles where they would not normally play. For these activities will be invited professors from the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy, Cluj-Napoca/Budapest Music Academy, consecrated artists from prestigious chamber music ensembles.
The main results of our work together will consist in two public concerts in Hungary and two in Romania where all the acquired competences during the learning activities will be harnessed.

We are convinced that both, the students and the teachers, involved will acquire new skills and competencies. We estimate that the students’ key competences, such as teamwork, easy adaptation to change, problem solving, critical thinking, better communication and interpersonal skills, will be improved. They will also perfect the use of the English music terminology. They will realize the importance of interpersonal skills when working and playing with international students.
We expect to enhance the specific skills of chamber music playing: adaptation in the chamber ensemble regardless of its size or component , methods and techniques of playing together, acquisition of high-level interpretation techniques, understanding of the musical text and of the stage moment , the psychological preparation for the public performance.

In order to disseminate the project results there will be: Facebook pages, sections dedicated to Erasmus on both institutions’ sites, press releases, radio/TV shows and organized press conferences, promotional materials. We will organize dissemination events at 3 other national institutions. As a result of the success of live streaming as a dissemination strategy during our last Erasmus Project ENGOP we decided to use it again.

Following the European priorities and the national context, this project aims the horizontal priority supporting individuals in acquiring and developing basic skills and key competences and the additional/specific priorities and topics, such as: inclusion- equity, social and educational value of European cultural heritage, quality improvement institutions or methods.
