Project Summary
Communication is the base to create, build, and above all, break down barriers that prevent us from understanding, accepting and expressing solidarity
with our environment.
We have seen that interest in modern language is decreasing and the proportion of students who read modern languages is decreasing. As many as one-fifth of students jump off their language choice. One of the consequences will be that they may do not get into the education they want in the
future and can not join and compete for the job they want. The students also manage worse in countries where not English proficiency is enough. They also get a worse understanding of the cultures and traditions of other countries as this is a part of language teaching. In addition, a large shortage of teachers is encountered by very few who train for language teachers. When the European Union issued a recommendation on eight key competencies for lifelong learning, communication in the mother language and in foreign languages was two of the given skills. The aim of the project will be to counter the development of the negative trend described above and create better conditions for the pupils who are at the risk of jump off their modern language course.
The aim of the project is to to make students more competitive by improving their basic skills in modern languages. Those who participate in the project are twenty students from each country Denmark and Spain. The selection of the students participating in the project will be considered to
those who are at risk or socially and educationally vulnerability. The interest in participation will be the driving force which will generate the effort to acquire and develop their language capacity during the previous stages to the maximum. All the students are from the eight/ninth grade (3rd and 4th ESO in Spain). The election of participants is strategically directed to groups of students in the last grades of compulsory education. As the main reason is based on the objectives already mentioned, to encourage, motivate and reinforce the conviction of the importance of the acquisition of other languages, it is in this group where we can see the impact and effects of the interest for the participation and achievement of the goals of the project. There are two teachers from each country. The activities in the project are based mainly on the use and development of language skills, especially the aspect that involves communication and verbal fluency and the challenge for the students to discover the need of speaking foreign languages. The methodology involves to use direct communication, create good relations between our students and also raise interest in each other’s life situations. The content of the different activities, both in Spain and Denmark and, are aimed at direct communication between teenagers and also related issues, common interests and issues of age and youth culture.
The students will be stimulated by the new environment of learning to gain new perspectives on the world and themselves, learning languages and more about global issues and getting valuable contacts for the future.
