Project Summary

Primary School Jana Pawła II in Kleosin together with the partner schools: Ivan Cankar Primary School, I.C. Pacifici Sezze-Bassiano
and IES Cantely, are planning a joint 23-month school cooperation project. The CLASSIC AGAIN project has goals common for all the partners: improving communication skills in English among students and teachers, developing reading skills (reading comprehension and the reception of culture texts), increasing students’ motivation to learn, improving the quality of school work – the European dimension of the school, attitude of tolerance and openness towards other nations, understanding of social, linguistic and cultural diversity; gaining knowledge in the field of history, culture, literature and customs of the partner countries; improving teamwork skills and increasing social activity, implementing innovative activating teaching methods for educational activities of partner institutions (drama, visual and art techniques, ICT tools); enriching the offer of extracurricular activities, including eTwinning classes. The idea behind the project is a creative approach to teaching language and reading competences using the methods of drama and ICT. The participants of the project (aged 11-15) will choose a literary work whose reading will contribute to the development of their cultural identity. Then, through various forms of expression (music, dance, drama) and ICT, they will develop a new approach to it. Students will create a scenario, develop scenography, music, and acting. The finale will be to organize a spectacle to which the local community will be invited. With the use of new technologies, promotional posters, a film, a photo gallery and a blog of the project: CLASSIC AGAIN will be created. During the exchange of young people (96 students in total) we will creatively and effectively spend time at workshops: from creative writing in Croatia, through drama in Italy, language in Poland and ICT workshops in Spain. The aim of youth exchange will be to improve communication skills in English, learn new skills from each other and get to know the culture of the partner countries. We will use the eTwinnig platform to cooperate and implement the project. We want to show that schools can learn in an interdisciplinary and creative way. We are a part of the European culture and it is worth to get to know other classical works that make up our common heritage. With the changing world in mind, the goal of the school is to create conditions for the student to acquire competences that will enable them to function smoothly and prepare them to meet the requirements of the modern job market. Communication in mother tongue (spoken and written), foreign languages and learning skills, cultural awareness and expression are the competences emphasized by the European Council and the European Parliament, necessary for functioning in a knowledge-based society. To improve the quality of teaching and learning of communication in English, language workshops are planned at each partner school; to develop the ability to communicate in the native language and to improve reading comprehension skills, text editing – creative writing workshops will be organized. Reading is an important element of civilization as well as the most important competence in today’s information society. However, the literacy level of many young people is not high enough. Reading is associated with something boring and unnecessary. Computer games, social media and television still win with the book. That is why our project will use modern and effective methods and forms to develop reading interests, which also include the use of modern media. Drama workshops have been planned, important in shaping the individual skills of students. The program, developed with partner schools, is to strengthen learners’ language and reading competences, motivate them to learn and contribute to their further self-development. Our offer is addressed to those students who have problems with learning or who are in a difficult family situation.
The activities take into account the needs of schools and are used to improve the quality of education and the development of the students’ competences. The finale of the school’s cooperation within the framework of the project will be the presentation of a work belonging to the classics of the literature of a given nation in a creative way using modern technology in the national language and in English. The exchange of experience between teachers from partner schools will allow to recognize the need for change in the existing learning style and strenghten the teachers’ status.Teachers will gain additional skills necessary to work with students in the area of shaping key competences of students and the use of innovative methods and forms of work. As a part of the project, scenarios / lesson plans using new methods and work tools will be developed and will be placed on the school website.
