Project Summary
Hate speech, as defined by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, covers all forms of expression which spread, incite, promote or justify racial hatred, xenophobia, Antisemitism or other forms of hatred based on intolerance, including intolerance expressed by aggressive nationalism and ethnocentrism, as well as discrimination and hostility against minorities, migrants and people of immigrant origin. In order to treat the problem of hate speech both online and offline, new skills and competences for youth workers are needed. Project “Power to Change” emphasizes exactly that – the power that youth workers, organization and specifically young people have to make a change on a global and local level through unified and joint action. Hate Fighters Network would like to implement the project in cooperation with Udruga Impress Daruvar from Croatia, IDA Network from Bulgaria, Organisation for Strategic Development in Africa (OSDA) from Ghana, Beyond Borders from Italy, SPPMD from FYR of Macedonia, Círculo Raíces Sardas from Argentina and Hellenic Youth Participation (HYP) from Greece . Hate Fighters Network would like to increase the skills and knowledge of the youth workers of consortium organizations at two levels: the use of different creative methods in youth work and the use of counter and alternative narratives as a tool to combat hate speech in the work with young people. Aim: To increase the number of peace-building and combat against hate speech activities in Europe, Latin America and Africa and develop a pool of youth workers competent in this field Specific objectives• To build the capacities of 25 youth workers to use creative methods of dance, music, photography and mobile reporting in work with young people • To involve 320 young people in the peace building activities through testing of newly acquired skills for the use of creative methods in youth work • To develop competences of 25 youth workers to use counter and alternative narratives to combat hate speech and to strengthen the response to hate speech through human rights education by making use of counter and alternative narratives • To train 160 young people on the taking action against hate speech through counter and alternative narratives and increase the number of the local trainers in participating countries motivating them to become active in the combat against hate speech • To network over 200 youth workers from Europe, Latin America and Africa empowered with new methodologies to work with youth in these 3 continents Activities:1.
