Project Summary

The project seeks to promote students reflection on current Global issues, to make them more sensitive towards diversity, humans rights and environment, making them getting them involved. It aims at boosting children’s critical thinking skills and creativity, to promote their social, digital, language skills and their autonomy. By reinventing the classic “The little Prince”, children will research, analyse, compare and suggest solutions to XXIst century problems of our society. Through the journey of 6 young Galactic explorers across Europe, all school communities will research and reflect on issues such as Climate change, Wars and refugees, Gender inequity, Irresponsible and unhealthy food habits, Addiction to screens and lack of social skills. They’ll be challenged to come up with solutions, process that will be shared with the other partner schools. Thanks to this association all participants will learn and value European heritage. This join-venture will be crucial for the achievement of the objectives of the project. Students will analyse the problematics in their countries and will compare and learn about the situation in the other ones. Pupils will make questionnaires to find out how their schoolmates and families approach a problem; in eg. how they reduce, recycle and reuse. They will also analyse their respective Government laws regarding these issues and there will be a very enriching comparison among the countries involved. Not only students, but all the school and local communities and authorities will participate and learn a lot during the project. The core target will be pupils aged 11-13, which will travel and make the final product. The interest of the children will start with a story: 6 young Galactic explorers have come to the Earth from a far Galaxy; 6 Princes/Princesses whose parents have sent them to the Earth to learn about it and to help the humanity. But what do they have to learn about? And what do they have to help the humans on? The 6 explorers will split and each of them will land on a different partner country: Greece, Ireland, Croatia, Poland, Italy, Spain. The children will 1st have to CREATE their little Explorer: draw it, describe it and give it a name. The pupils will work cooperatively in teams, making their proposals and each school community will vote for their “avatar”. Schools will present them to each other on the 1st trip. Each school will prepare touristic folders in order to introduce the other partners to their country and town. This way pupils will have to consider the values that define their national and cultural identities. Then the explorers will continue their journey across Europe, where they’ll find several Capsules that will warn them about different problematics and will challenge them to research and do something to try to solve them. In every mobility a Capsule will be discovered and its participants will share it with their school community after the trip. Involving all the pupils in all schools will be very beneficial so more people can get the opportunity to benefit from this unique opportunity. Through this engaging journey, students will be highly motivated, learning about European cultures, about researching, discriminating and analysing data. They’ll work in groups, improving their social skills. Assigning each student a key responsibility in the team will ensure maximum engagement from all of them and will serve to promote the idea that everyone has something important to offer, which addresses inclusion and diversity. Many subjects and skills are fostered; geography, environment, ethics, cultures, history, maths, literacy, English, ICT. Pupils will create a Youtube Channel and will become reporters creating Vlogs. Their challenges will be: make questionnaires and “Info graphics” about Climate Change, create a rap song about Healthy habits, make an Awareness Campaign FOR the Peace and against Violence (making posters, adverts, tv commercials, etc.), create a Responsible and healthy Menu. They’ll make oral presentations, exchange letters and emails and participate in workshops related to the topics addressed. In each mobility the pupils will report on their findings; a rich comparison between the data from all countries will be collected on a file and published. After the 2 years, the students will be able to answer the 2 questions set at the beginning and come up with a common conclusion. The final product will be a Digital Book recreating the story of the 6 Explorers. Each school will held responsibility for 1 part of the book, each one focusing on 1 of the issues. Different techniques for recording the Digital book will be explored and training sessions organised. Engaging in sustained collaboration with schools from abroad will be a culturally enriching experience that will provide students with invaluable real-life experiences that will enable them to develop important skills which will prepare the them for their adult lives and futures.
