Project Summary
“How healthy are You?” is a project which stems from the precept that Europe suffers from a major problem regarding health. Health problems have become one of the main problems of Europe as it caused 1 million deaths per year due to the lack of physical activity – especially in high-income countries. The UE encourages its member for a healthy and active lifestyle in every aspect of life as a daily routine. All the partners involved in this project are commited with this concern and they are initiated in our common goal at their schools which supposes the main reason to create this Strategic Association to develop the project.
From the beginning to the end of this project, we will focus on developing health habits and strategies to look after the three main areas of health: physical, mental and environmental.
Our aim for students are:
-ensuring social inclusion,
-improving basic social communication, investigation and critical thinking skills
-learn from other cultures for diversity and heritage
-increase healthy habits amongst our educative community
-create responsible EU Citizens
-develop 21st century key competences
-working on nature-friendly tasks
-improve emotional wellbeing
Amongst the learning partners we will create long-lasting lesson plans and teaching resources while sharing expertise, creating awareness of health problem and keeping away from physical and emotional bullying. All the partners have similar motivation about our project idea so in the preparation period they made good and meaningful contributions. All of our activities are decided in concensus and every partner is responsible for implementing each of our activities at their institutions. Our students will take an active role during the consecution of this project, gaining a health license as they reach the objectives as well as being involved in the gardening, recycling and mediation clubs.
ETwinning has been used from the early beginning of our project idea. We searched partners on eTwinning and after the partnership was formed we created our eTwinning group and project under the same name “How Healthy Are You?” for equal exchange information, communication, planning and organisation of the project. Our project activities will run simultaneously on our twinspace. The Erasmus team will have weekly coordination meeting in each of the schools, the coordinators will be in touch via etwinning , whatsapp, mail… in order to follow up the work and activities planned to provide extra details about the organisation and planning of the transnational activities.
During the 24 months of this project, we planned 3 short-term joint staff training events and 6 short-term exchanges of groups of pupils. Although the LTT Activities and local activities mainly focus on Y6 students, the rest of the students will also participate in project activities; since we aim to have an impact in the whole school community: class teachers, school families and other members of the community (non-gubernamental charities, city council, associations, local media…) will be part of this project in different learning activities. Our project will include our school members with cultural differences, educational difficulties, disabilities, economical obstacles and health problems. We will encourage and support them all to take part in all the activities. Each partner has a project team and this team will be responsible for all kind of planning and implementation of local and international activities, communicating with partners, planning and organising the mobilities and diseeminating the results as well as ensuring all school teachers are involved.
We searched partners on eTwinning to find partners to our project idea that has started from a Rolling Health School Project at our school. Among the many applicants, we selected the most highly motivated partners. There are both experienced and inexperienced schools in our partnership but during our preparation period we saw that we selected the best partners as they are very hepful, hardworking and reliable. All of the partners have made good contributions to our project idea.
By the end of this project, each learning partner wishes to have had a long lasting result which will benefit their school community: the Italian school from Como aims to apply for allowance to eat own grown food at their school canteen; the Spanish school in Fraga will apply for the creation of a cycle path in the city whilst the Welsh school wishes to improve their littering service at their beach in Barry; the Turkish school also wants to establish three healthy clubs (gardening, cycling and recycling) at their institution. The consecution of these activities and the results will be widely spread in order to encourage the society supporting the EU major problem regarding health.
