Project Summary

The project “Connection of two music world” was a project between Tonlistarskoli Kopavogs Iceland, Conservatorio di Musica “Santa Cecilia” in Rome Italy and The Music department of Lulea Tekniska Universitet in Pitea, Sweden. The projects focus was chamber music from the three countries; Iceland, Italy and Sweden, with the objectives to broaden education at all the participating schools by introducing, educating and training the participating students in different style of music and musical interpretation. The number of participating students from the three partnership schools were all together 141 students during 4 activities from secondary level and above. The activities were based on chamber music studies, first separate preparation and then joint rehearsals and lectures together in the Icelandic and Italian partnership schools and composition and performance of new music from Sweden under direction of conducting students from the Swedish partner. At the end of the second year of preparation, rehearsals and planning, concerts with the material were held in Iceland and Italy at venues like the Dark Music Days Festival in Reykjavik, with qualified performance with interpretation, expression and musicianship, as well as premier performances conducted by master degree students. This qualification gained by the project was passed on to other students and audience and is available on a digital video recording on Youtube giving long term results. The new compositions and other sheet music used in the project is also available at the partnership institutes for future use. All objectives were fulfilled far better than expected and the participates gave performances where they showed magnificent skills of the music performed and new compositions of high quality.
