Project Summary

Our „Discover-Understand-Enjoy-Share” project involves two schools. Teleki Blanka Vocational Secondary School of Economics, Budapest, Hungary is a member of Budapest Vocational Training Centre for Economics (BGSZC), together with 20 other institutions, and trains the future professionals in logistics, economics and in tourism as an upcoming field from September 2020.
MTÜ Kool 21. sajandil is a private gymnasium with 130 students, aged from 6 to 19. The school puts a special emphasis on arts, music, the development of creativity, and critical thinking. In their education research and project-based learning belong to the long-year practice. The school has multiple experiences in Erasmus projects.
Both schools are strongly convinced, that Erasmus projects offer great opportunities to connect, develop, and learn. Both of them are motivated to build out an international network to be able to cooperate in more international learning projects and to have more colleagues with Erasmus experience.
The objective of the project Discover-Understand-Enjoy-Share is to develop, transfer and implement innovative practices in peer learning, and project-based learning with the help of cultural-related issues. Teleki also focuses on its upcoming educational field, tourism, in which teaching of foreign language and location-related content are of special significance. Art is an important part of the project, activities offer students learning opportunities that wouldn’t be part of the education for some of them.
With the cooperation we aim to develop our pedagogical methods and learn from each other by sharing good practices in project-based learning, learning outside the school with a focus on culture.
As a result, we will have a collection of culture-related project scripts, with materials, resources. We also would like to have a cultural journal made by our students, which offers insights into our culture, and which can be used in different subjects, such as English, art, history, tourism, etc. We would like to discover our cities’ beauties and do research to learn about them. We will organize a photo exhibition from pictures taken by our students and would like to share the result of the discoveries by organizing a cultural day for our students, teachers, and parents on different spots of the city in the framework of our schoolday. The program will involve walks, quizzes, we also would like to use the gamification method based on our previous Erasmus project activity. We also plan activities related to our language, music, and cuisine.
With the new methods, we can strengthen our teaching profile, and promote work-based learning, combine learning about culture with creativity and support comprehensive teaching and learning techniques. As a result of the project, we will have methods, and materials, which enable us to multiply the effect in the following years by integrating it into the syllabus of English language teaching.
We hope that by sharing the experience we can motivate further colleagues to generate work-based learning projects. We are convinced, that the project contributes to the development of cultural knowledge, foreign language skills, ICT skills, develops the self-confidence and open-mindedness of all participants. It also gives the opportunity to strengthen our students’ art education, broaden their arts perspective, introducing them art forms that they can better understand, and enjoy. We hope that understanding also leads to an appreciation and our students will be ready to share their knowledge and can multiply the effect of the project. By sharing the results our students can motivate further students in an effective way to take part in further projects on local and international level and it contributes to the improvement of the quality of our education.
