Project Summary
Cultural heritage offers a unique platform for international cooperation and dialogue, fostering mutual respect, appreciation and understanding. However, it needs to be preserved and it is our duty to carry out actions to teach our students its social and educational value. Heritage is a source of identity and a valuable factor for empowering school communities and enabling vulnerable groups to participate fully in social and cultural life. This project aims to implement and innovative program and raise awareness of Cultural Heritage, European citizenship, multiculturalism and multilingualism at the same time it develops key competences (literacy), foreign language and ICT skills and address social, ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity .The planned program will adopt a skills-based approach and provide a real-life meaningful context where the participants will broad their cultural heritage knowledge through learning the traditional legends of the 6 partnership countries. Traditional legends and myths from the popular culture are a common element everywhere in the world. Most of them have been transmitted orally since Ancient times but this storytelling tradition is disappearing due to the modern world habits. Furthermore, literacy levels have decreased, especially among teenagers, who are becoming more and more dependent on electronic devices. Our students do not know most of their national legends and we want to make them realise their richness at the same time they enhance their literacy, foreign language and ICT skills and critical thinking.
The students, teachers, school personnel, parents and the rest of the whole school community from all participating schools will take part in the project. Around 1500 students and 120 teachers from the partnership schools will take part in all the activities. We will promote equity and inclusion by facilitating the access to participants with disadvantaged backgrounds and fewer opportunities. We will also include our local authorities, businesses and schools within our areas, local media, school governors and local communities who will be continuously informed about the project through the Erasmus + corner, twinspace, website and local and regional media. The students travelling (the older ones from the high schools) and the accompanying persons will experience a real life cultural immersion and enhance their intercultural competence, social and foreign language skills.
The activities will be focused around the traditional legends of the 6 partnership schools. Recording videos, writing plays, designing interactive posters and performing activities related to the traditional legends of the 6 partnership countries will enhance literacy, ICT, foreign language and social skills, autonomy, organization, leadership and critical thinking of participants and will realise about the importance of these skills for their future professional lifes. Collaborative work will be enhanced through continuous group work in all activities and the participants will realise about its importance. The students will get to know two legends from each partnership country following the order of the trips (C1-C6). The 1st legend will be explained and worked before each visit and the second one during the visit and after it. The use of ICT will be crucial throughout the project in order to maintain communication and participation of all participants through virtual encounters using eTwinning during the whole project. The six visits /trips of the project (C1-C6) will include several workshops and conferences related to Cultural heritage, Literacy and ICT performed by experts on the field to boost the participants’ knowledge for their future professional lifes. This knowledge will be transmitted to all participants in each schools after each visit.
The project will have a postitive impact on our pupils, teachers and other school staff, local authorities and community and educational institutions by opening doors for new ideas. The assessment and success of the project will be measured through several quantity (questionnaires’ results) and quality (interviews) indicators. All results will be published on the website and Twinspace and the links of the website will be in the school’s websites, too. The activities and products will be displayed in the Erasmus + corners at each school for everyone to view them. At the end of the project, we will create and e-guide to enhance Cultural heritage and develop literacy skills at secondary schools, which will be available to download and print for anyone who wishes to use it. When the project finishes, all schools will implement the approach in their schools’ curriculum using the e-guide and we will continue developing ideas for future cooperation, evaluating achievements and impact, contacting relevant media and cooperating with the European Commission by providing useful inputs to its dissemination and exploitation efforts.
