Project Summary

School life is not all about academics, games, friends, and fun. In fact, it is also about learning to interact with other people, being aware of the social issues/inequities and learning to amend the deformities present in our society. Recently, there is a global trend of young people getting involved in society. Famous activist Malala Yosoufzai and Greta Turnberg are probably the most known teenage activists in the world who are seeking to change the world. In our countries, pupils are still quite passive, according to surveys and are not very confident that they can make a real difference in society.

The partnership is made up of 6 partner schools (Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia and Turkey), some of them have developed in the past successful collaborations. Our schools have identified a need to improve the quality of civic engagement skills and competencies. Almost all participating schools know each other from previous projects. While visiting the schools noticed, that some of them have very strong student councils, the others are just functioning and not doing what they should do. Because of this reason we came up with the idea to help each other and to raise the democracy level in our schools. We intend to learn from successful schools and share this enriching experience in our school and in local schools as well.

The project aims to build a strong school student self-management team capable of initiating positive change at school. Students often do not realize that they can make significant changes if they take appropriate action. During the project, students will be taught how to make responsible decisions in consultation with a variety of stakeholders. There will also be a focus on trainings, workshops, where students will learn how to organize campaigns, promotions, fundraising events, etc. The project aims that each participating school will discover and implement a series of events that will become traditional and add value to the life of the whole school.

This kind of didactics is not purely disciplinary but is mainly subject to the formation of the person and his needs, centered on workshop techniques and very attractive, which works starting by problems and aims at their solution with the cooperation and sharing of all. The partners share materials and resources and develop units of cross-curricular work in civic engagement, and involving more volunteers.
The methodology used is designed to engage students using languages familiar to and interesting to them, and keeping with encouraging them to actively participate in school life.
Objectives:
-Students will search, analyze and perform problem-solving acts to improve their key competencies and be active citizens.
– Make students actively closer to the decision-makers to train attentive observers and critics. Make students closer to the more intense relationships with the “outside world”, cooperation extended between the stakeholders, a school with a school, teachers with teachers, managers and local administrators, families and teachers, young leaders, with everybody’s mutual support.
– develop the habit to act in the name of the community;
– creating better communication between students and teachers;
The results of the activities:
– Establishing a strong model of students council at each school;
– creating a better environment for students to express their ideas;
– develop organizational, decision-making skills from the young age;
– take-up of innovative practices in education, by supporting collaborative learning and critical thinking;
– all products created will be prepared digitally by using technology and this will be a great opportunity to improve ICT skills;
– eTwinning activities between the school’s partner, mainly involving students.

Finally, it’s envisaged the reinforcing of the European dimension of school education, in particular by encouraging constant transnational cooperation between schools, contributing to the improved professional development of staff, and by promoting the learning of languages and increasing intercultural awareness in pupils, teachers, staff, and parents.
