Project Summary

Under the project title “Using the Weapon of Education: Knowledge as a Tool for Inclusion and Tolerance for a Cosmopolitan School, for a Cosmopolitan Society”, high schools from Germany and Spain are working together under similar conditions. The project, whose main focus is on strengthening pupils’ understanding of democracy (education as a weapon for change), goes far beyond getting to know each other and transnational language acquisition. The focus is on the development of critical thinking skills, which should enable pupils to find ways and means to support the inclusion of migrant children in school. The project offers students the opportunity to delve deeper into the broad field of inclusion and migration. In last year’s European elections, a clear shift to the right was noticeable. Right-wing parties have been gaining ground in European countries (such as AfD in Germany and VOX in Spain) for years.
Another crucial point of this project is the use of our students’ social networks, wherefore they are supposed to deal with extremist content and hate comments on the net on the one hand and are confronted with the everyday problem of fake news on the other hand. As the number of channels increases, so does the complexity of the process of personal opinion and identity formation. Our project therefore also deals with the question of how we can give students orientation in a world full of fake news.
