Project Summary

Our project is a multilateral partnership which involves six schools from Italy, Portugal, Poland, Spain,Turkey and Greece. It has been created to encourage students to take up sports in order to keep fit and healthy both physically and mentally, and to adopt a healthy life style. We aim at expanding the role of sports for educating children on anti-racism and interculturalism. Our project will contribute to the promotion of intercultural education practice and life-long learning skills in the area of social and civic competences.. During the project pupils will engage in different topics related to the sport and healthy theme. We have organized activities to encourage them to get aware of healthy and non-healthy choices and of the effects they may have on them and they will have the opportunity to experience the real values of sports and acquire the practice of “fair play”. Thanks Orienteering sport, our students will:experience different ambient in which they will be able to orienteer applying their ownabilities; discover ur ban and extra-urban areas of their own Country as well as the other countries
ones; will mature the awareness of a common European sentiment and enrich their knowledge relating to the European integration;have the possibility to experience t he real values of sport and by applying such values in several and different areas will acknowledge the disvalue embedded in any form of violence.
Through the project the students will have more opportunities to improve their English language competence, communication and literacy skills. They will become more self-aware and more confident. They will increase their awareness of the similarities and differences among Europeans, which will help them fight stereotypes. The project will be an invaluable opportunity for teachers to learn from their partners and improve their cross-curricular teaching approaches. The final products of our cooperation will be a treasure for the present and for the future students and teachers of our schools, which they will have the opportunity to use in many different ways. Thanks to the inter- disciplinary feature of the project some of the activities will be carried out within the following subjects: environment education, geography, foreign, language, drawings and technologies, gymnastic. With this project we not only aim at confronting different experiences but also want to explore new ways of teaching in line with European standards. The results will strengthen the feeling of belonging to European citizenship and will contribute to the cultural and professional growth of each of us. This project also is designed to provide teachers and other education staff with the basic skills and tools to lead a range of group exercises and challenges, problem solving games, experiential activities in the nature, on school sites, in local parks as well as in urban settings. Thanks to orienteering the pupils will: experience and practice environmental and outdoor education working methods and approaches; get to know and experiment practical activities and group games that could be used and integrated in a real course; learn how to use outdoor education for personal, social and relational development (e.g. self.confidence, team building, leadership…).
