Project Summary
Nowadays, the environmental problems that we are suffering represent one of the most important challenges that we face, both nationally and internationally. The role of children is very important, and that is why we think that environmental education is a right and also an obligation. If they are able to know the most serious problems in the environment, they will begin to be aware that every little gesture matters. This is the origin of our eTwinning project Harry Potter and the Case of The Sick Earth, which, through gamification, not only fosters the habit of reading but also revolves around the environmental problems that our current society is suffering. In order to complement our eTwinning project, we requested participation in an Erasmus + KA229 project that would complement and enrich our project, being able to set ourselves objectives that could only be achieved with this synergy. Among these objectives we highlight:
1. Know, identify and understand the causes of environmental problems that affect our planet: climate change, pollution, species extinction, deforestation and loss of biodiversity
1.1. Conduct training workshops related to recycling, pollution, deforestation, loss of biodiversity, climate change and renewable energy
1.2. Know the protected areas of the project partner countries
1.3. Know good practices that are carried out in partner schools to collaborate with the protection of the environment
2. Raise awareness and acquire good practices for the protection and improvement of the environment
2.1. Understand the importance of recycling and caring for the environment through responsible activities and attitudes
2.2. Promote activities that contribute to the fight against climate change, pollution, the extinction of species, deforestation and the loss of biodiversity
2.3. Create materials that promote environmental care
2.4. Carry out activities in nature that respect the environment as a means of enjoyment and promotion of healthy habits
3. Internationalize teaching in schools through collaboration with other countries within the eTwinning and Erasmus + community
3.1. Enable joint work and the exchange of experiences of partner schools related to educational innovation through environmental education
3.2. Work collaboratively, both within the classroom and with the European partners participating in the project
4. Respect and preserve the European cultural heritage
4.1. Learn and value the importance of the natural, social and cultural environment of the country itself and of other European countries
4.2. Facilitate interaction, communication and cultural exchange between project partners.
The participants in this project are 4 schools: one from Romania, one from Italy, one from Greece and one from Spain. Students are the main protagonists of this project. They will participate both in the organization of activities on execution and evaluation. They will carry out 31 activities, attend 4 trainings in the school itself on topics related to the environment and will make mobilities to the four schools. The groups that will carry out the mobility will be students of the participating members who are in 5th and 6th grades (between 10 and 12 years old). The mobility will include 48 students who will be accompanied by teachers. Indirectly, teachers, families and the educational community will benefit from this training. They will be part of the eTwinning project with access to the twinspace, where they will participate in forums, video conferences. Also materials will be shared. The methodology used will be gamification, outdoor learning and cooperative groups. We will use various computer tools to create materials. The main results that are expected to be obtained are: website, facebook page, Erasmus Corner, eTwinning project, quality eTwinning stamps, videoconferences, posters, recycling bins, training workshops, a collaborative book, articles in the press, a charity market, an orchard, plantations, magazines, posters, a calendar, e-games, advertisements, campaigns, etc. Intangible results: improvement of the internationalization of schools, improvement of the level of proficiency in English, training and awareness of environmental care, improvement in the use of ICTs and the skills of the participants, increased knowledge of European cultural heritage .
The impact and long-term benefits are: acting responsibly and safely with the environment, they will know what the main environmental problems are in the world and they will respect the European cultural heritage. The project website will be maintained and used for monitoring and future collaborations for partners. The schools will continue to participate in environmental projects and will be integrated into school programs.
