Project Summary

Our consortium brings 5 organisations (3 youth associations, 1 youth foundation, 1 youth training company) from 5 EU countries (BG, PL, EE, ES and IT). The idea behind our 50M project is a result of a preliminary needs (challenges) analysis on 2 levels (organizational and national). Our main findings that shaped the direction of our vision can be summarized, as follows:- Organisational: all partner organisations are engaged in the provision of youth trainings on a daily or regular basis. In recent years, we have noticed two negative tendencies in our learning provision: increasing number of learners (especially, from disadvantaged groups) not completing the training programmes and increasing number of learners that report no change in their situation (e.g., from unemployed to finding a job) after graduation. One of our explanation for these outcomes is the lack of sustainable motivation for development among learners and we realized more focus from us and our staff on this area is needed. – National: one of the main challenges for all countries in the partnership (Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Estonia and Poland) is related to addressing social exclusion and poverty of young people. Youth unemployment is one of the leading factors for intensifying this challenge. In some countries such as Bulgaria, Spain and Italy unemployment levels reach 40-43% (Eurostat). The profile of young people in a „not in employment” situation changes from country to country. There is a wide range of factors, bringing young people in this situation: immigration or ethnic background (Spain, Italy and Estonia), family or living/geographical environment (Bulgaria and Poland).Stepping on our findings we have formulated the overall aim of our project related to enhancing youth workers’ capacity to develop sustainable motivation for learning among unemployed young people. The concrete target group of our partnership will be youth workers in our organisations and professional communities (including social workers) in our countries. The long-term beneficiaries from our project implementation will be youth workers’ communities across Europe and young people with fewer opportunities (unemployment). We will achieve our project purpose through the following set of objectives:- to develop a set of 50 youth work methods (50M box) in all partner languages and English;- to train 10 youth workers (2 per partner country) in using the 50M box;- to engage 80 unemployed young people (16 per country) in 10 pilot sessions;- to inform 100 youth workers of the benefits in using 50M box through 5 demonstration workshops (1 per country);- to promote 50M project vision, messages and outputs on national and European scale through continuous dissemination activities. The 50M box is a complete innovation for the partner countries involved. On European level it complements the extensive efforts of Salto Resource Centres in providing a set of 50 specific methods for enhancing motivation of young unemployed learners in a light, entertaining and effective way.The main impact dimensions of the project can be summarised as follows:1. Youth workers will learn how to utilize the 50M box in their daily work with young unemployed people, which will raise the quality of their performance and effectiveness of services they provide. In addition, communicating with peers from other European countries will expand their perspectives and understanding of youth work practices across Europe and will enhance their motivation to engage in future cooperation efforts for exchange of good practices and development of innovations. 2. Young unemployed persons will develop a higher degree of self-esteem and motivation for continuous development both on personal and professional levels. Enhanced motivation will lead to higher learning achievements and improve their prospects for employment. 3. Partner organisations’ staff involved in project implementation will improve their knowledge on international know-how in the field of the project and skills for international research and development work. 4. Other stakeholders (youth training providers, regional and national authorities) will generate evidence base for expanding the portfolio of learning opportunities offered to young people in unemployed situation and further developing existing training programmes for youth workers. The long term impact of our project will lead to higher employment rates among young people, which will contribute to better quality of life across Europe.
