Project Summary

Has IT technology reached such a high level that it is no longer necessary for members of musical bands to be together in the same country when music is made and recorded? Leading developers of recording software now claim that this is the case. We like to find out if this is true.EU Street Project is an informal group of young musicians and film makers from three European countries: Iceland, Germany and Czech Republic. These young artists will experiment with the idea of band-making and working together through the internet crossing European borders. The group will then compare this work in cyberspace to live rehearsals and concerts where all members are in the same location. The band aims to work together over the internet and to prepare a program consisting of both cover songs and original material. Six songs will be recorded during the process and music-videos supporting each song will be available for public viewing.Over seven months period the group will meet every two weeks for online workshops on Skype. However, in the middle of the project´s timeline, all the participants will meet up in person in capital cities of their home countries, Reykjavik, Berlin and Prague. The purpose of these meetings will be to compare notes, by hosting workshops where lessons from the internet music making sessions are discussed. Following these meetings, the results of the band´s work will be put on public display by live “Street Concerts” held in central location of each city.At the end of the process, a short documentary film will be made and released by the group where experiences of participants are shared. This project will be a learning experience for members of the group and perhaps other bands can gain from lessons learned.
