Project Summary

The project: To work together = get to know each other, involved pupils and staff of both partners (schools in Haviřov – the Czech Republic and Jastrzebie-Zdroj – Poland) into the common activities which resulted into good acquaintance with partner´s life and work. Two similar schools have been cooperating in a limited way since 2006 but this project enhanced their partnership onto the higher level. The very important factor of the partnership, which made the cooperation easier and more effective, was the official partnership of both cities (Havirov and Jastrzebie-Zdroj) and the geographical as well as language similarity of both regions, which made communication easier and enabled frequent meetings.

All the project´s objectives (below) were accomplished:
1. To learn about the similarities and the differences of the life in the nearby regions. To identify possible stereotypes and prejudices and to learn the cultural diversity.
2. To involve pupils and staff into the systematic teamwork on the common theme, to acquire new methods and forms of working in an international team, and to link up the project work with the school curriculum.
3. To support the use of modern ICT both in the communication and when obtaining the information and processing it and to increase the students´ self-confidence and their communication, presentation and language skills.

This project involved similar groups of students (aged 15 to 19) and teachers divided into 3 sections and 1 subsection – Cultural, Sport and Technical 1 and 2, which worked in parallel. In each group, there were up to 15 students working on the topical project’s assignments. The teams (except team leaders – teachers) were modified according to the needs and orientation of the task but about 50 were working on the project at the same time. In this way the project affected all the target group = students of graduation branches Autotronic, Building services, Business, Furniture and wood manufacturing, Operating engineering with Czech partner and students of “Technikum” – Mechatronic, Miner, Informatics, Analyst, and “Lyceum” providing the general knowledge type of education with Polish partner (250 and 400 pupils of both schools). About 20 workers from each school have also been participating in the project activities during the project time.

Participants made these outputs:
– The Czech-English-Polish dictionary of technical terms and schematic symbols used in the field of Electronics, Regulation Hydraulics and Pneumatics – web app.
– The survey, quality measurement and comparison of two regions in terms of the air pollution.
– The testing, comparison and evaluation of physical condition and sports skills of the students in both partner schools.
– The overall presentations of the most important local sports clubs and the outstanding sportsmen.
– The lexicological Czech-Polish dictionary of teenagers.
– The regional cookery book and video cookery book.
– The oral and electronic presentations, charts, photo documentation, video records covering the areas: The outstanding regional personalities and the social life and history of Havířov and Jastrzebie-Zdroj.
– The interactive comprehensive publication describing the project work including all the project outputs, learning/teaching activities, dissemination activities and bonus activities.
– Organization of 2 final seminars in both schools.

Final outputs were also compiled in Final reports of all the work sections comprising procedures, methodology, charts, videos, interviews, outputs etc.
In addition to planned activities we implemented extra activities:
– 2x sports day and participation in sport activities of both partners
– Erasmus+ project day
– Common educational excursions and meetings
– Mutual active participation in school celebrations and culture events
– Team competition in English
– Common chemistry and ecology lessons

We organized 4 short-term exchanges of groups of pupils (2 in the CR, 2 in Poland, 1 week each), 2 short-term joint staff training events (1 CR, 1 PL, 1 week each) involving 43 students + 14 accompanying persons/teachers and 13 staff members/teachers (3 more student + 3 more teachers in comparison with the plan).
The project created a highly motivating school background through offering partners interesting topics and involved pupils and staff in both the project and the school life implementing new methods and forms into their educational processes. Partners mutually exploited their inner potential and equipment and benefited from the partnership.

Project allowed learn about the work and life of many local and regional institutions and authorities, enabled to make new contacts and began new partnerships. Project also helped to reveal the partners´ strengths and weaknesses. Partners gained the whole picture of their neighbouring regions including their similarities and differences which strengthened participants’ sense of belonging to Europe.
