Project Summary
The idea of this project arised from a group of teachers meeting together on the eTwinning-portal,who after a lot of view exchanges,wanted to contribute to the foundation of a new concept of Europe as a result of many different languages,cultures, traditions and values so to get to a new way of relating among European citizens. Our project had been constructed by the participation of 5 schools from Turkey, Latvia,Spain,Portugual,FYR.of Macedonia, which have different languages and different ethnic structures in order to build a multicultural Europe in the European foundation.
The partner schools had different ethnic students. We recognized,accepted foreign cultures living in our interior,and at the same time, acquired the social contexts of cultures by recognizing the cultures of partner countries and introduced different cultures in cultural diversity,created mutual understanding,love,respect,tolerance among different cultures and beliefs, we worked at the international level to break down prejudices, barriers, stereotypes of people towards different cultures and ways of life through volunteering.
All the activities taking place in our project was actualized with the participation of the pupils,the teachers, and the administrators.The parents,local and regional schools,associations, and local community groups took office in carrying out the activities, too.60 pupils,40 teachers took part in the mobilities of the project and also 16 teachers in the international project meetings. From project direct beneficiaries:375 pupils,100 teachers, indirect beneficiaries 2000 persons. In order to address larger audiences, all the activities of our project were opened to local people; an awareness of our project was created through local media.Additionally,our project was announced to larger audiences through Project Web Page, Etwinning, School Web Pages and Social Media.
The main objectives of our project were;
Instead of the partners introducing their own cultures,the partner schools searched, learned and taught about the cultures of the other partner countries. We gave immigrant,refuguees,foreign pupils the opportunity to introduce their own culture. In this way, among participants,it was provided to construct a direct and active dialogue between the different European cultures from different nationalities. Thanks to this newly created active dialogue, friendships were established and this led to reduce racialism in the future. With Public Service Annocument we created cultural awareness to people.
The languages of the participating countries were taught at a basic level. The basic knowledge of these languages increased the desire to learn a foreign language in Europe and contributed to form a multilingual European community.
With the visual questionnaire,‘’What do we know about you?’’ which was implemented on the local people,the pupils and the teachers; views and opinions of these groups about the partner countries were elicited. The results were shared with the partner countries and in this way this became a source for the countries in improving the false perception or resolving the lack in introducing themselves better.
Our project ensured to break the existing prejudices,to prevent the intercultural conflicts,to discover and adopt different, common/disappearing cultural values by examining languages,music, dance, food, feasts, lifestyles, handicrafts, customs and traditions, all of which form the culture. Besides, their own cultural identity awareness was formed in the partner countries. This project motivated the students to protect their cultural heritage and to be respectful towards other different cultures.
Among the different aims of the project, there was a will to enable students with economic and social inabilities to catch the opportunity to take part in these European meetings sharing humanitarian values and learning to respect human rights, to be self-confident, and to live peacefully as a true European Citizen.
By the activities that were carried out during the process of the project, pupils increased their ability to express themselves, and they acquired self-confidence and they also increased their sense of taking initiative and responsibility and their entrepreneurial spirit.
By using modern ICT techniques participants improved their ability to work. The increasing demand in learning foreign languages provided to improve the communication abilities and helped to form more qualified European Citizenship and European Identity.
