Project Summary
The project covers the process of creating a short film. It includes the pre-production, filming and post-production processes of filmmaking and concludes with festival submissions and development of marketing material for the finished film.
This story began when the director/writer wrote down his experience of the night when he lost his step-father. After finishing writing this story down he realised what he had been keeping in and the effect it on him. An effect that shaped his character in a way that wasn’t necessarily good for him. After this he started to research similar things around him that were happening in the community. There was a small discussion about men and their feelings. That they could show them, they had to be tough and for me that is taboo. This is an old thought that does not apply today. For today people are much more open and are much more free to be them selfs. This topic is not talked about with the appropriate ages (14-30). By then it can be too late for their character is mostly shaped. Thats why we want to make this project to address this sooner.
Our script tells us about Anton (25 years old) who has experienced a grate loss in his young life which had a big impact on who he is today.
Anton is out partying with his friends and everybody seems to be having fun except him. Suddenly Anton flips the table over and the fun they where having turns serious and all of his friends look at him shocked. There Anton gets enough of hiding his feelings and begins to tell them from the night that changed his life completely.
He explains in detail how he got the news that his father had died.
We follow Anton throughout the journey and see how he changes in this short time.
The key creative individuals in this project have substantial experience working in their respective local film industries. Despite their young age, they have amassed numerous credits working on various features, short films, documentaries and television series. Their resumes are attached to this application.
From Iceland there are eight participants. The director, cinematographer, two producers, assistant director, and three technical persons.
From the UK there are four participants. A producer, a script supervisor, and two technical persons.
The project will start with each group working in their own country with skype meeting taking place between the groups. The producers will be in charge of organising logistics like travel and filming and will convey information as they come. Others will work within their smaller teams to create the artistic look for the project i.e. Director and scrip supervisor go through the script. Cinematographer and gaffer design the lighting. When both groups meet in Iceland for the filming of the short film they will also take part in meetings with Icelandic production companies, equipment rentals and tv stations.
The pre-production stage and filming will take place in Iceland. We will recruit experienced filmmakers to work with us on the film and will make sure that highest level of professionalism is maintained throughout.
Our hope is to change the way people look at masculinity. To show that men don’t have to be tough and without feelings but they can be both. To show kids it’s ok to say and feel the way you want to.
Our aim is to show this film to as many people as possible. Start by doing film festivals, then moving to television, then the Internet and finally in schools where kids can see the film and have a discussion about mental health moderated by the teacher.
We hope that the group from UK has learned from their time here in Iceland and that they have left the Icelandic group with something to use in their future work in Iceland.
The objective of our project is to create a short film that we can be artistically proud of. Furthermore, the entire process should help us become better and more efficient filmmakers and storytellers.
In an industry where exposure means everything, we certainly hope that our film will help showcase our individual talents and aid us with developing visibility for future endeavours.
We feel that our talented and diverse group will ensure that our objectives will be met and that the process will be enjoyable for all.
