Project Summary

The project “Our culture- European heritage“ highlights the need to explore diversity and uniqueness of cultural values as well as establish constructive dialogue with all members of society and with the aim of preserving these values for future generations. The project includes “European Year of Cultural Heritage“ idea that knowing one’s roots and preserving one’s culture and tradition is an important aspect of the education of new generations of Europeans.
The project promotes research and exploration of one’s own cultural heritage as well as the ones belonging to the respective partner countries in the context of the European heritage. Research on this topic will enable the participants to value cultural heritage appropriately, and find ways to implement it in modern context. Through cooperation with the local and international community, communication and intercultural competence will be developed as well as a sense of belonging to the European territory and values.
Having analysed the needs of the future participants, the partners established communication and cooperation and created a partnership of three schools: Croatia as a coordinator, FYROM and Italy. The partnership is part of a two-year international project and includes 21 participants who are teachers of different subjects: English, Math, Geography, Religious Education, Art, Science, Music and lower grades teachers, enabling its cross curricular implementation.
Exchanging our knowledge of customs, dances, stories from the history of our own regions will help develop the awareness of national and European identity. To achieve the objectives of the project, collaborative learning and teaching, surveys, peer teaching, and project based collaboration will be made an essential part in the organization of the project’s activities.
The language of communication between partners will be English and the participants will have the opportunity to develop their foreign language skills as well as intercultural and social skills through their work on joint activities as well as through the process of communication and reporting the activities and results of the project internationally. Working on the project will imply a more careful use of the mother tongue and raising awareness of the multilingual environment. This awareness will culminate in the production of a multilingual dictionary of terms related to cultural heritage, added by all partners and enriched by illustrations created by students from all partner schools.
Other products of the project will be an international collection of traditional songs and dances, multimedia quizzes about heritage, maps featuring historic and cultural monuments, a cookbook of traditional dishes, an international collection of children’s artwork, book of legends. The students and teachers will also collaboratively create an online gallery, presentations on culture, schools and countries (PPT, Prezi…), a wiki page with collaborative learning lesson materials, on eTwinning, Twinspace. Using digitalization in the process will help develop ICT skills and collaborative learning skills.
The teachers will encourage the inclusion in the project of students, parents, all school employees, and the local community. It will strengthen the relationship between the school and the local community, both of which make efforts to preserve tradition and cultural heritage.
The project will also include students with fewer opportunities, paying special attention to the needs and the contributions of the minority students as well as students with special educational needs.
Transnational learning activities will give all participants the opportunity to learn with and from others. Knowing different cultures boosts empathy and tolerance towards other people and countries.
The cooperation between the schools and the local community will continue through the schools’ participation in the celebration of important days and holidays celebrated in each of the partner schools.
The project offers benefits in the end because the results and activities will be included in the school curriculum of every partner school. This will include the partner’s practices and their innovative solutions.
The schools will provide an adequate space for the promotion of the project, which will, besides displaying traditional items, also be used as a learning corner. In this way, the project will have a long-lasting influence.
