Project Summary
context/background of project: This project started years ago with the main objective of having pupils from Slovenia and Hollandtwo countries/cities/schools with huge differences in geographic, demographic and social areas, convene and learn from each other’s background. As of 2017 we changed the objective to raising shared awareness and developing plans regarding sustainability.
objectives of your project: The objective of our project is working together on a theme, sustainability. They will learn about different aspects of sustainability, and will think of realistic solutions for sustainability projects for which we will use 21st century skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, collaborating and information literacy (ICT). And because people from different cultures are working together and learning from each other, another objective is of course citizenship, we are briinging together pupils from completely different cultural and environmetal background and thus have them look at the project from different angles. We want our pupils to take responsibility for and have them think about the current problems and find solutions in an intenational context. Sub themes can be transport, habitat, food chain, and recycling.
number and profile of participants: about 50
description of activities: work on sustainability solutions (the project) in groups in the mornings and for the full Friday, on the last night present the solution in any way the pupils find suitable. There will be workshops, lectures and visits to places (companies/universities, sites) that are all about sustainability and that will raise awareness and have the pupils think about possible solutions to their sustainability project. In the afternoons we show them around our immediate environment and Amsterdam including some more sites that are theme-related, and do some bonding activities such as racing through The Hague and ten-pin bowling.
methodology to be used in carrying out the project: step-by-step planning and everyday evaluations and visiting companies and lectures.
a short description of the results and impact envisaged and finally the potential longer term benefits: Short-term: Cultural awareness, (spreading) environmental awareness on an international scale and long-term: applying the acquired skills in the final years of secondary school, especially in subjects such as Biology, Geography, Social Studies, Economics and projects and presentations and even ideas on future studies and occupation, especially important in the international city that is The Hague,
