Project Summary

In March 2019 two groups from Trinitas Gymnasium Almere left voor Duisburg (Germany) and Arles (France). Both groups were accompanied by two teachers. The students were excited about their visit and looking forward to a great experience.

The school in Duisburg had prepared the following programme to meet the requirements of this project:

– Urban changes – a discussion among students
– Environmental measurements – outdoor event
– Processing the measurements in groups
– Conducted tour in a synagogue (cross-cultural meeting)
– Structural changes in the harbour – sustainability in urban areas
– Conducted tour in Recycling Zenter Nord (Abfalllernpfad) – sustainability in urban areas
– Conducted tour “Der Berg ruft” – transformation of urban areas
– Preparing a meal together according to a local recipe (cross-cultural meeting)

All items were worked out in study sessions, using different devices and working together in Dutch-German groups.

The school in Arles had prepared the following programme to meet the requirements of this project:

– Visit ecosystems in the Camargue
– Visit rice plantation
– Meeting with a hydrobiologist
– Van Gogh walk through Arles (cross-cultural meeting)
– Visit the Rhone and discuss the environmental risks the river is facing – sustainablility in urban areas
– Discussion: using durable materials to protect the environment
– Meeting with an artist who is working on a vision of re-using materials
– Restauration of old cultural buildings in Arles

All items were worked out in study sessions, using different devices and working together in Dutch-French groups.

In May 2019 students from Duisburg and Arles visited Almere. They had a joined programme, prepared by Trinitas Gymnasium:

– Visit a newly built neighbourhood based on ecological principles. Special tour and explanation by a resident
– Visit Amsterdam (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum) – cross-cultural meeting
– Visit The Hague (Museon – environmental college), Dutch Parliament
– Visit Batavialand, museum about the history of Flevoland which was water before it was turned into land 100 years ago (guided tour), followed by a guided tour with a ranger through nature reserve Oostvaarders Plassen
– Visit to “Urban Greeners”, a group of students developing part of the Floriade which will be held in 2022 in Almere

All items were worked out in study sessions, using different devices and working together in Dutch-French and Dutch-German groups.
