Project Summary

Europe is a multicultural space without frontiers in which many nations and nationalities live. Everyone is different, so everyone is looking for ways to co-operate with each other in peace, the respect and the audacity in this space. Therefore primary schools from Turkey, Romania, Lithuania Spain and Slovakia have created an Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership Project with the title “Beware of Endless Wealth; Art is Revising European Values!” 2016-1-SK01-KA219-022538. Our project is innovative and points to a progressive view of education. The main objective of the project has been to promote moral values in the European Union using all branches of Art, because art is a way of interacting with people around the world that touches the deepest emotions of the human beings. That’s why we chose art as a means to achieve our goal, teaching moral values in Europe. The target group were the pupils of lower secondary ages, from twelve to fifteen: pupils from the disadvantaged social environment, as well pupils motivated by the arts. The project included five learning mobilities with pupils, workshops in galleries with regional artists, creative interactive activities, competitions, group discussions, reflections, excursions and games. Through activities such as trekking in nature, signing campaign, torchlight parade, interactive activities, exhibitions and others – bonds of friendship strengthened at the local. national and international level. Our pupils also developed ICT skills, as well as communicative skills in English language through art, moral values and team work. As examples of good school practice, we bring three outcomes from our international project. One of them is the song about values with the title “Values Song” consisting of five stanzas focused on friendship, empathy, tolerance, justice and respect – the values forming young people in Europe. The second outcome of the project is the drama performance titled “Drama and Justice” which consists of five demonstrations of theatrical performances on the subject of justice. Each demonstration represents one of five countries. The teaching aid “Drama and Justice” on DVD can be a practical demonstration of interdisciplinary relationships for the English, Literature, Art, Civics teachers. The third outcome is the booklet titled “How to Implement Art into teaching Moral Values” in which the teachers can find ready CLIL lessons, ideas for workshops and activities using he branches of art – sculpture, painting, drama, music, dance and Moral Values and English to teach interdisciplinary. There was the “Night of Arts” which took place at the end of the project. There were all kinds of created artwork presented by our pupils. It can be assumed that more than five thousand people have been informed of the project’s results. It is possible to prove that branches of art, such as sculpture, music, drama, dance and painting connect people with different cultures and different religions. Our pupils have gained new insights, experiences that will help them to develop their empathy, tolerance and thoughtfulness, and in the future they will create Europe friendlier to all its inhabitants. All participants of the project have realized the importance to live in peace, they are more tolerant and their awareness of equality and justice have increased. Our pupils have learnt greater responsibility towards themselves and towards other people. They respect other people´s opinions and have gained valuable insights into foreign cultures and religions. Teachers have gained new approaches to creative teaching. They are more motivated to work on international projects and open to European culture. Our project reinforced the creation and dissemination of innovation in education by linking CLIL lessons. The project promoted pupils’ skills in art, led pupils to realize the importance of moral values for today’s world. Through the project, we supported pupils from the socially disadvantaged environment and the regular school attendance has been increased. We also supported talented pupils in arts and in their personal development. The project also contributed to the understanding of the principle of equality, helped to find new friendships for our pupils. All participants of the project and schools could enter the international platform through the project and belong to the great community of the European Union.
