Project Summary
The project “Saving the environment with code” is part of a school partnership between Portugal and Germany.
The goals of the project are to sensitize the participants to climate protection, to provide them with background knowledge for environmental protection and to program apps and to implement hardware projects that actively contribute to climate protection and also motivate people outside the group to protect the climate, e.g .:
– An app that enables groups to come together to produce, save or share sustainable food (e.g. with solidarity agriculture).
– An app that makes it possible to visualize and reflect on individual daily CO2 consumption. Similar to a fitness track app, users can be motivated to reduce their consumption
– A hardware project could be a robot watering trees to reduce the risk of forest fires.
– Another hardware project could be a change box, via which goods / food can be exchanged in public space and which is secured by a code lock.
60-80 young people between 16 and 19 years of age, students from both schools, are participants in the project. They work on eTwinning and in a total of four transnational meetings. They work according to the project method: brainstorming, effort protection, creation of time and network plans as well as milestones. They regularly reflect and evaluate their planning and procedures and present their products, among other things. at public events.
The long-term benefit lies in climate protection, but also in expanding the technical skills of the participants.
