Project Summary

The partner schools have realized that their pupil mobility programs were more efficient in developing pupils’ learning skills and competence when they could get a deeper insight into other cultures and traditions. In today’s fast changing world with the overload of information it is important to give the chance to pupils to orientate in cultural issues. So, the cooperation of the five partner schools will put more emphasis on culture and traditions, focusing on how secondary school pupils see the National Heritage of their own home countries and that of their peers in the partner countries. The project will enable them to see their National Heritage in the dimension of the European Union, and also develop high quality skills such as critical thinking, debating, presenting effectively and using ICT in communication and self expression with the help of Art. The project will also add to the development of pupils’ emotional competence, as project experience will help them understand different attitudes and manifestations to similar phenomena. The French school will be the coordinator, managing the project and keep contact with all partners. The German school will write reports about the events of each short term mobility program. The Hungarian school will help organise the long mobilities, and help write the final report based on the survey in English and French. The Romanian and Spanish partner schools will be in charge of making videos about the events and making the guide about how education in each country promotes preservation of National Heritage, and what attitudes pupils are expected to have in relation to it. The guide will be based on the survey completed by schools and illustrated by the pupils of art classes. It will also be published electronically. With the expertise of the Romanian and Spanish partner schools the pupils will learn about culture’s manifestations through the eyes of their peers.
Project activities will improve pupils’ learning skills as they will explore relevant topics doing research work, communicate and work with their peers at home and with project partners abroad via the Internet. They will create art pieces of their choice to illustrate project contents, make videos, take photos and write reports about the events and places visited during study visits and perform activities to understand the values National Heritage means for individuals, and the relevance it has in the dimension of the European Union.
Meetings will be a fundamental means of communication as the project itself is based on the topic of preserving National Heritage. We believe talking face to face is a value which has great importance , thus each school will organise a “Thematic Week” hosting representatives from partner schools, including programmes such as visits to historic places that are relevant manifestations of measures taken by authorities to preserve National Heritage. The meetings will make it possible for pupils to get to know each other better and also to learn more about themselves by the activities they will be involved in and the feedback they will get during the different steps of the project.
Also, pupils on long term mobilities will spend several months at one partner school benefiting from all the teaching expertise the schools have such as Lycée Jeanne d’Arc ‘s excellent project based teaching methods of science and of social sciences, and Budapesti Fazekas Mihály Gimnázium’s achievements in teaching mathemathics, enabling pupils to apply mathematical thinking in other subjects. The schools will benefit from the situation of having motivated students with different linguistic backgrounds. Teachers will improve language skills and will have the opportunity to try out new methods. This challenge will help strengthen the profile of the teaching profession as well.
The long term benefits of the project will be pupils’ experiencing new ways of learning and acquiring skills and competences within the framework of international cooperation with their peers. They will be proud of becoming part of the EU project community, as it is a guarantee they have taken part in high quality programmes and have gained experiences they can benefit from in many ways – in this case getting help for finding out more about culture, helping orientation in a wider community. Schools will experience international teamwork, which can help find new ways to challenges of today’s education. Hopefully, working together will strengthen the trust in partners and willingness to go further and take new steps in meeting challenges of tomorrow’s education The partners will be able to show their expertise in ICT and to benefit from other partners’ experiences. The involvemnet of different school types will increase students’ motivation and share their best practices in competence development. In fact, the project aims to be open to the multicultural knowledge of European heritages.
