Project Summary
The population of older people in Burdur is increasing fast, due to low birth rates and migration to other neighboring cities. The demographic change that we have experienced in Europe has been rapid. On the other hand, Ageing is causing changes in society as a whole. Although it is usually associated with loneliness and isolation, ageing can also be an enjoyable experience if senior citizens are provided lifelong learning opportunities, live healthily and independently with security. Elderly people often feel confused when faced with new technologies. Some of them have computers and internet at their home, but their relatives don‘t have enough patience and time to teach the elderly to use these technologies.
Besides, elderly people have some problems on reaching news, health information, shopping (e-trade), and the ability to stay in touch with distant friends and family. Target group is 60+ aged people. Our aim is to present a case for imparting digital skills to people aged over 60+ years of age and to present strategies. The project helped to teach the elderly how to use the internet to keep in touch with people, find information, use credit cards, bank operations, request a doctor’s appointment, and purchases over the Internet much more. Objectives of the project are:
– To develop and implementation of a new information and communication technology (ICT) education program for over the age of 60+, and increase the quality of life.
– Social inclusion, active citizenship and personal development, and resulting in an improvement of the quality of life of seniors
– To support the social life of elder
– To design evidence-based training initiatives for digital inclusion of older people;
-To promote active ageing.
Within the Project, basic digital skills has been provided to elderly people. To improve the digital skills of seniors, new Intellectual outputs such as Training Curriculum, Training Materials, Practical Handbook, E-Learning Module and to solve their problems, Quick Solution App. were developed. All Intellectual outputs were developed in order to connect them to the new technologies, ensuring that these technologies are appropriate for their needs, expectations and interests have been developed. Also, to teach seniors use of inter, computer, and mobile phones, we organized the local courses in Burdur and Catania by using project Intellectual Outputs. Local training courses impacted increased seniors’ quality of life. Thus elderly people have eased into the digital world—active participation in the community via training courses.
The project was carried out totally 5 partners. Our local partner was Burdur Public Education Centre. European partners were
Austrıan Assocıatıon Of Inclusıve AIS (Austria), CIDET (Spain) CPIA 1 (Italy). All partners have expertise & experience in the field of education, training while making it available to the targeted user groups through EU-funded projects.
Two Short Term Learning, Training (LTT) activities were held in Austria and Italy. AIS (Austria) was organized first Short Term Learning Teaching activity in Vienna. 6 participants from Turkey, 2 participants from Spain and 2 participants from Italy were attended to 1. LTT . 2. LTT was held by CPIA 1 in Italy. CPIA 1 organized a training course for 5 participants from Turkey, 1 participant from Spain, and 2 participants from Austria. Then local training was given to seniors to improve their digital literacy in Burdur and Catania.
Also, two multiplier events (seminar) were organized in Burdur (40 participants) and Italy with the participation (30 participants) of relevant stakeholders for sharing and disseminating the intellectual outputs realized.
At the end of the project, we believed that we reached the expected results of the project with the contribution of project intellectual outputs and local training courses of seniors organized in Burdur and Catania, Italy. Since seniors start to use internet, mobile phones, use social media, online banking, online shopping, read news etc a sufficient quality of life in old age has been provided. In this way, society’s goal of achieving equality and full participation of the elderly was provided. Now, seniors are more active and social in their life. Thus, social inclusion was provided. The result of the project is the development of the mental and psychological conditions of the elderly and for being part of social life. Thus, our project has been supported active ageing.
Local training courses impacted increased seniors’ quality of life. Also, social inclusion, active citizenship, and personal development have been provided. The project also has impacted senior citizens LLL opportunities
The Ageing Together project has been impacted senior citizens’ LLL opportunities for active ageing. The promotion of digital literacy has been supported their aging and offered them social inclusion, independence, and motivation.
