Project Summary
As participation in a mobility programme is one of the greatest tools available to young people today in the fight against racism and nationalism, the project “A Europe of Mobility” is a project which aims to empower leaders of civil society organisations across Europe with capacities in lobbying and advocacy to be used for advocating for the generalisation of youth circulation in Europe. Travelling, studying and working in a different environment allows to break down stereotypes, provides a European perspective and increased professional skills and capacities. Unfortunately, there are still many obstacles to participating in a mobility programme for the majority of young people, which leaves a large percentage of the young European population vulnerable to xenophobic, racist and divisive attitudes.
Focusing on the identified need to enhance cooperation, connections and capacities amongst project partners from 9 European countries, the project will build capacities to both allow for a strong advocacy campaign for the generalisation of youth circulation, and equip participants and organisations with tools, skills and connections which will be of great benefit to each organisation in their respective areas of focus beyond this project.
Thus, the project looks to:
1. Promote the empowerment of youth by developing the skills of Advocacy and Lobbying, a need identified by all participating organisations and associated partners from various countries in Europe. This will be done through capacity building trainings and exchange of best practice focused on building coalitions and developing campaigns. The campaigns will be focused on widening and improving youth circulation across Europe and will enable young people to connect with, express their opinions to and influence elected policy-makers, public administrations and individual citizens, both at national and European level.
2. Develop relevant and high-quality skills and competences, specifically in the area of advocacy and lobbying, but also in developing and managing projects and campaigns at national and European level. Furthermore, the global aim of the project, widening youth circulation in Europe, will have a beneficial effect on young people in general, as researching, discussing, debating and evaluating the impact of studying abroad and the limits to participation will allow for the development and enhancement of global-mindedness, an increased awareness on both the national and European level and ultimately a better understanding of one of the key issues affecting youth today; all of which are highly valuable and relevant skills which can be used in their future professional development.
3. Enhance youth circulation through leading to youth mobility programmes built primarily by youth, including those from vulnerable groups.
The main target group of the project is young people, starting with those involved in human rights and antiracist organisations, and extending to student associations and highschool student unions, teachers unions and universities. Ultimately, the project will target young people considered to be inactive in the political or democratic sphere with a view of consulting them directly through consultative sessions at national level. In addition, a secondary target group are key decision makers at national and European level, including but not limited to MEPs, MPs, and representatives of Ministries of Education. Participants will build connections with them with a view to involve them in consultations and present the results and outcomes of the project to them.
