Project Summary

Background and targets of the project
Schooldays are an important and time-consuming stage of life of children and adolescents. School´s responsibility focuses on imparting of knowledge as well as bringing young people up as democrats. That is one of the essential objectives of schooling because young people will transfer innovation and creativity into economy and the society as a whole. Therefore, young people want to be taken seriously, involved and challenged. It´s about the sense of belonging and children have to learn, to live and to create it. So democracy should be established as a lifestyle. The commitment to democratic education at all schools is a challenge in Germany and Europe we want to meet in our project.
Number and profile of participants:
– boys and girls aged from 6 to 17, educational staff
– 3 German schools (primary and secondary I)
– 1 Dutch schools (secondary I and II)
– 1 Italian school
– Government Education Authority of Middle-Thuringia
– Institute for primary schools (Netherlands) for 13 schools
Activities:
– meetings of project teams national, international
– meeting of teams within the schools and between partner schools
– rounds of planning, exchange of outcomes, approach and solution models
– development of democracy-educational culture at schools (structures, participation of different partners…)
– overview for children and youngsters
– creating possibilities of participation in social issues at school, in the village, in the region/area
– reflection, evaluation, documentation
– regional relations work/regional public relations activities
Methods of implementation for the project itself: project management
Methods of development of social competences: practice, support, encouragement, recognition of children and adolescents
Results expected:
The students learn to understand the social situation they live in and gain social competences to act responsibly inside their school community, in the school environment like the hometown or village and in clubs and associations and to shape the social relations. In this way, they can succeed in social and voluntary participation. Our task is to create suitable structures and opportunities of participation for students that have an effect as social area network and involve external partners.
The education staff increases its repertoire of teaching and learning skills regarding to development and consolidation of social competences of schoolchildren of all ages.
In the result of the activities, democratic cultures and structures are established and democratic actions are developed. Commitment to democratic education means to practise these attitudes with the whole school community.
