Project Summary
The German Oberschule Rechenberg-Bienenmühle and its school partner the South Tyrolean Mittelschule “Hans von Hoffensthal” Klobenstein, planned the Project -We learn from each other “South Tyrolean traditions and handicrafts of the Erzgebirge”. The underlying idea of the project was the development and successful continuation of a lively and effective school partnership.
The basic idea of our project was the intercultural approach of pupils with the aim of getting to know the people, school life, way of living and culture as well as the partner region itself. On the basis of the project the close interrelated exchange about customs and culture was intended to establish lasting personal connections between the partners.
The first action of our complex project was a one-week stay of 6 German pupils and 2 responsible teachers in Klobenstein in October/November 2018. There the 6 pupils transfered information to the two future partner classes 1 about our German school, region and country with the help of presentations and short plays. There they handed over the first German letters to the South Tyroleon pupils as the beginning of the exchange.
The next action took place in Oberschule Rechenberg-Bienenmühle in May 2019, where 4 pupils and 4 teachers from Klobenstein realized a one-week project with the 2 German partnership classes of Year 6. They learned South Tyrolean dances, Mediterranean cooking as well as the preparation of typical South Tyrolean dishes.
The first pupils’ exchange lasting 5 days was planned in September 2019. Together with two teachers all included German pupils visited their South Tyrolean partners and met them for the first time. The teachers of Mittelschule Klobenstein realized a project week with several learning modules, workshops and excursions.
In November 2019 again 6 pupils and two teachers from Rechenberg-Bienenmühle went to Klobenstein for one week. They showed the South Tyrolean pupils the making of the traditional “Schwibbögen” (und Sterne) , the famous handicraft from the Erzgebirge. Every pupil produced his own one.
In May 2020 the second big students’ exchange couldn’t take place because of the measures to fight the Corona virus.
Furthermore 2 meetings of the organizing teachers (responsible group) took place . The first meeting was realized in Klobenstein in September 2018 and another one in Rechenberg-Bienenmühle in Dezember 2018. Here future activities and invoice expenses and mobilities were planned.
The planned final meeting of the responsible groups in July 2020, where the accurate financial account was supposed to take place, wasn’t realized because of Corona as well.
Intended objectives were: reduction of prejudices, improvement of tolerance and acceptance, intercultural knowledge acquisition, handicraft activities and dealing with new modern communication tools. Furthermore we hoped to get an improvement of social competences as well as a strenghtening of the students’ self-confidence.
Another concern for the German educational stuff was gaining practical experience regarding a successful inclusion as is already the case in Kobenstein. Just as important for the collegues of the responsible group was the exchange of learning methods and teaching techniques. In regular trainings gathered experience was shared with the entire college .
We are professional collegues who indeed speak the same language but come from different historical and cultural Background. And moreover opportunities have already arisen to reconsider the human living and working environment. to compare the different school systems and learn from each others knowledge for the own work environment.
