Project Summary

It is by now clear that gender violence is rooted in structural gender inequality.
Maghweb, during 6 years experience in the field of social communication, had the opportunity to address the topic from a communicative perspective and to realise how gender violence often is perpetrated though the media: women are often absent in public spaces and, when they are represented, the narrative portrays often women as passive objects of men’s desire. Also when it comes to gender violence, the narrative is often far from paying attention to the victim, but it almost justifies the abuser.
In the third sector there are several organisations working with and for women and trying to give visibility to their activities of advocacy for gender equality and of contrast to gender violence. However, these organisations very often lack of qualified staff, who can reach the target and address such a delicate topic adequately.
The project foresees the following objectives:
General objective: to contribute to increase the active presence of women in public space and to better their representation
S.O.1 To increase and to develop competencies in the field of communication of organisations working with women through the exchange of good practices
S.O.2 To develop the international network of organisations working for and with women, in order to give strength to their activities of advocacy and more visibility to their actions
S.O.3 To develop competences in the field of communication of adult women, so that they can create communicative contents which represent themselves autonomously
In order to reach these objectives, the project envisages actions targeting mainly adult women and organisation working with them. Indeed there are going to be 3 learning mobilities during which participants will acquire competences in the field of education of adult women and communication in the field of gender issues. The project foresees several offline events and the development of 2 outputs: a map of organisations working with and for women in Europe and a manual of good practices in the field of education of adult women and communication in the field of gender issues.
