Project Summary
Our project “Europe is ALL-INclusive” was tightly focused on promoting inclusive education. It aimed at finding together different ways of teaching and learning so that classrooms actively involved all children. And not only that, but finding ways to develop friendship, relationships and mutual respect between all children, teachers and the whole schools communities too. Motivation and creativity were as well key points to address when finding different ways to design lessons so that all children were involved. We wanted to put an emphasis in what pupils could do, on their abilities, rather on what they could not do. We wanted to encourage a culture of respect and belonging, providing an opportunity to learn about and accept individual differences. In this way we tackled as well early school abandonment, as we created activities where pupils felt motivation,
which is the desire to learn, through our four pillars: music, dance, art/crafts and physical education.
We based our objectives on the strategic framework of European cooperation in education and training, including actions like:
– boosting creativity and innovation, including fully embracing the digital area. Our activities and the ones included in our short pupils’ exchanges were planned to channel this objective to the basic aims of our project.
– fostering inclusion, equality and non-discrimination towards mutual understanding. All pupils were able to be part of their community and develop a sense of belonging and become better prepared for life in the community as children and adults.
– promoting lifelong learning and mobilities with an active exchange of information and experiences. This addressed not only pupils, but teachers as well, where the planned workshops raised and improved teachers’ knowledge about designing lessons and curriculum to teach children, so that pupils with various abilities and strengths can learn together. Apart from that, the exchanges that took place, provided a unique experience for children that broaden their minds and awareness of other cultures and focused on skills and confidence to be effective advocates for themselves and others.
– improving the quality of education with activities based on key competences for all ages (3-14) and abilities.
We formed a group of five European schools (Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Denmark and Spain) encompassing both kindergartens and Primary Schools. Our activities were meant to engage everybody without exception, promoting therefore inclusion. They were as follows: interactive presentations, travelling mascots preparation, video products, tutorials, e-magazines, use of eTwinning and Edmodo platforms, project’s blog, local blogs in local languages, music+dance together, key-days celebrations, creation of “little ALL-IN European art museums”, kindergarten and primary school pupils exchanges and farewell videos. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the two final Primary schools’ exchanges in Denmark, the Danish workshop for teachers and the ALL-IN Mini-Olympic Games couldn’t take place. Activities were focused on pupils’ strengths and capabilities and involved different learning styles so that every pupil was considered. Pupils experienced new situations that proved to increase motivation at school and their sense of belonging, improved their language skills and ICT competences, felt they all had equal value in a common learning environment where a collaborative approach and a flexiblemethodology were taken. Teachers shared experiences, knowledge, improved their international dimension, reinforced their professional profile. Activities and good practices were integrated in the curriculum in a long-term context so that all pupils/teachers benefited. The project also helped schools to uncover practices, policies that may had been a barrier to inclusion and helped to develop a realistic plan to address them.
Our project was spread outside the school communities, parents, other local schools, the regional schools’ administrations. Through media, networks and other institutions we targeted a wider national, European and international level. Our results remain available through our blog, eTwinning platform and through the enrichment of the participants in a long-term perspective. Teachers focus of sharing their good practices, developed skills and will be able to apply new approaches in their everyday teaching. The European Language Portfolio platform will enable pupils to start/continue recording their language learning and their new experiences at schools and outside schools even after the project completion.
